  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wondering on a new car purchase..let's say for a 2012 model, how many keys the buyer would have received?

Two keys. FYI, a third key cannot be programmed.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
the "fob" can act as a valet key - you can set the trunk openining by glove box only... and then lock the glove box.. and remove the physical key from the kep fob remote (there is a button that separates the fob from the key - easy)

the valet can get in, start car... but not access the glove box... and thereby not access the trunk.

why is that? so one has to lose one of the keys in order to have another programmed?

is there no extra valet key either?

To your first question, I don't know why - I didn't design it! To your second question, ^ what he said.

can the metal key be used to start the engine? i don't remember if i saw a key slot for the ignition

The R Spec doesn't have that little slot just to the left on the vertical portion of the center console to use as a home to start the engine if the battery in the remote runs down, I guess. The dealer says you place the fob up against the start button. True?

Not just the RSpec. 2013 Tech doesn't either.

If this 2012 "new" car is actually a used car, it may only come with one key. It all depends on if the previous owner turned in both keys. Or, in more rare cases, if the dealership did not misplace/damage the second key.
