  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

im trying to estimate my monthly expenses and i want to consider things like gas and insurance costs to see if it makes sense financial for me to buy a genesis. thanks!

Too many variables for this question. You'll get responses from all over the place. The only constant is how much fuel the car holds. The rest, how you drive, how much you drive, premium vs. regular, price of gas in your area, etc. is what will vary.

I don't keep a close track on it but about 450.00/ month for all my cars (have 4). Per car i don't keep track. If I had to do that I would own only one or two cars and not anything like a new Genesis.

17 gallon tank, regular for V6, premium for V8, combined mpg is typically ~22 mpg. You'll have to do the math and how it compares to other cars.

What you really want to know is what kind of mileage you will get for your type of driving. Also you'll get different mileages between the V6 and V8 models. For me (V8) I get 14-15 in city (bad traffic), and up to 29 on solid highway.

Depends on how far I need to go...

I average about 20MPG on city, 28MPG on highway on my V6. Use regular on V6 and premium on V8 (according to the owner's manual). You do the math.

I have a 2009 4.6 V-8 with the tech package. I have installed a K-n-N air filter, taken the re-stricter out of the air box, and have a CAT-BACK Borla exhaust system. I can get 32.9 mpg on the HWY driving 80+/- MPH using regular gasoline (if I keep my foot out of the pedal). With Premium gasoline my MPG goes up an average of 3mpg, and the power increase is more than noticeable.

Insurance is REALLY low for a beautiful car that does 0-60 MPH in 4.839 seconds, HID moving headlights, leather, 17 speaker world class sound system, color rear view cam, driver/passenger/side curtain air bags, etc etc etc

Don't know if you have bought a Genny or not but it is a VERY fine automobile and I prefer it over my Jaguar! I would recommend trying to purchase a used model to take advantage of some one else taking the hit on the depreciation....

32mpg doing 80mph on regular? You must have Charlie Sheens tiger blood as an addative

I get a bit over 20 MPG in a mix of city and freeway driving. I've tried all three grades of gas and surprisingly saw very little difference in mileage. The difference in power may be there, but it hasn't been very noticeable, so I've been using regular for the past few fill-ups.

well to be honest it is downhill with a tail wind!

I average 50 bucks a week. And average 25 MPG.

Sorry if someone has already posted something similar:

Here is an easy way to figure out how many gallons of gas you use per year:
Miles driven yearly / avg. mpg = Gallons used per year.

Now that you know how many gallons you use (yearly) it is easy to see how much $$ per year you spend.
Gallons used per year * $$ per gallon paid = Yearly price paid

My avg MPG = 24
I drive 20K per year
20,000 / 24 = 833.33 Gallons
833.33 * $3.50 = $2916.66 per year in gas

I beg to differ on the premium in the V8. At least on the 2010, the horsepower is specified seperately for regular and premium therefore it just fine to use regular. Personally, with regular, I get ~21 MPG in a mostly city commute. On long trips I can get 27MPG highway if I keep it under 100.

I will have to try premium for a couple tanks and see if it really increases by 3mpg. If so, as long as the difference between regular and premium is less than $.50 it would make more sense to always use premium for city driving. Highway the break even difference is only $0.33

Regular on V8 is perfectly fine. Both by the Hyundai technician and the dealership. However, you need to use premium to get the advertised horsepower from your engine.
