  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

7 qt of dyno oil?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
OR ... it's what comes from dynosores:confused:

I've used Mobil 1 since 1975 - I'm assuming it's not made from dynosores. At least, I always thought so.

Theoretically my dealer offers free oil changes, but I prefer to carefully do it myself with synthetic oil and a torque wrench.

free oil change really? how and where? did you get that deal when you bought the car?

That's fairly common around here and my dealership doesn't even require you to have all the add on "extra" maintenance stuff done to qualify for it. My dealership also offers free car wash and I think tire rotations for the life of the vehicle. I can have synthetic option for something like $25, but with the severe service oil change interval IMO it's not worth going synthetic.

just got my first oil change the other day at the dealer.. $29.95 for synth blend... will probably spend the extra $$ and get full synth next time...

in Saudi Arabia the dealership do it free he change it with synthetic oil

Basic oil change for the 5.0 at my local dealership is $34.95, synthetic is $69.95. They have a coupon for a $24.95 for up to 5 qt, but since the 3.8 requires almost as much oil as the 5.0 (7.29 qt vs 8.45 qt), I expect the price for the 3.8 to be close to if not the same as the price for the 5.0.

Many dealership's websites have online appointment booking. Once you enter your vehicle's information, you should be able to see the prices for your vehicle without confirming the appointment.

The dealership includes free oil changes for life (original owner) with all new Genesis sales.

A rather sweeping statement - to say the least.

Conventional oil (mineral oil) does not come from dinosaurs. It does come from decayed organic matter, but mostly plants and microorganisms. The timing of when dinosaurs roamed the earth does not jive with when most oil deposits were formed. It is possible that some decayed dinosaur remains make up some oil deposits, but the percentage is extremely low.

The confusion probably came about when oil company called Sinclair used Dino the dinosaur as its mascot.

It's not a coincidence that oil companies sell synthetic oil. Most synthetic oil sold in the USA actually comes from highly refined (hydrocracked) crude oil (known as Group 3 synthetic). Shell (and its subsidiary Pennzoil) now make an Group 3 synthetic out of natural gas.

Even for Group 4 (PAO) and Group 5 (ester) synthetics, although it is not made from crude oil, it is usually made from by-products of a chemical process using methane, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide (as opposed to a refining process used for conventional oil or Group 3 synthetics).

Individual dealers are free to do whatever they want in regard to oil changes. The free oil change deals usually have certain other requirements, such as original owner only, and all other maintenance per the dealer schedule (not the owners manual schedule) must be performed at the dealer at inflated charges, and other such conditions that allows the dealer to get their money back on the free oil changes.

Also, a lot of dealers price oil changes the same for all Hyundai cars, most of which are in the $20K - $30K price range. Once they start understanding the extra labor involved in the Genesis oil changes, I suspect that the price will change with the new 2017 model year Genesis branding (and I don't just mean charging extra for more than 5 quarts of oil). But it is hard to say for sure, because oil changes are often a "loss leader" to get the car into the shop to sell customers other services.

I've had one oil change at my dealer. It ended up being like $32ish with all taxes/fees/etc...

They also washed and vacuumed it for me.

$125 for the V8 in Canada or at least at my dealership. After the shock of finding out they use simple cheap dino oil at that ridiculous price I did them myself thereafter.

for life ??????????are you sure ????????????

They are relying on the fact that most Genesis owners trade for a new car every few years and also hope that the goodwill will help grow new sales and service. When you consider how much is spent on advertising, it probably is not a bad bet. A local Toyota dealer also offers free tires for life. To be fair, I haven't taken them up on their offer so maybe there is some fine print involved. They did tell me that synthetic oil would cost more.
