  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

glass windows on your Genesis sedan? Local guy quoted me $500 is that too much?

I paid $250 for all 5 windows

I agree that $500 is way too high. This is partially depending on the quality of the tint, but I was quoted $250 for the 5 windows with high quality ceramic tint. I was, however, quoted $500 for Huper optic tint, but this tint is much more expensive than standard ceramic tint.

carbon based tint, 7 windows (little ones in rear seat) - $250
regular everyday tint I was quoted @ $150

When I had mine done by the same guy I've often used, in Eustis FL, 35% tint, four side windows, with metalic film and rear window non-metalic, it cost me $125. (metalic and non-metalic look the same - even saw the film come out of the box, so I know he was not cheating me).

There is another company in Tavares FL that does the best work. The best! Even their price is around $200. I just won't pay $200 when I don't see any difference between the Tavares guy and the Eustis guy.

In Raleigh, NC, $421.00

Had mine tinted today. $215 including tax for 5 windows and the sunroof. they used the darkest legal Llumar non-metalic tint. Have to say, the difference isn't dramatic.

I think it might be time to start looking at after-market grills.

I understand tinting is actually a film attached to the window. Questions, how is it done? Do they take out the windows? If so, is there a risk involved? Inside or outside attachment? Can the film be removed either intentionally or accidentally?

Thanks for answers to an inquiring mind (or lack there of).

The film is applied on the inside of the window, no window removal needed. I can't recall any risk involved, and yes, the film can be removed with a lot of effort.

I spent $120 for a hybrid tint. They were asking $400 for a ceramic tint. They showed me a test between the two and there was a huge difference. the $120 one was darker but more heat transferred through. The $400 one was lighter in tint but much less heat transferred through. But still, $280 is a big difference when you don't mind the heat too much. UV blockage is about the same so won't make a huge impact on your skin or your interior. Also cost wise, the name of the brand seem to make a difference up to around $60.
