If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey,

So I bought some platinum dealership add-on insurance for the car that is related to maintenance and repairs. It seemed good at first but now I am reconsidering. Basically the insurance will cover all non wear and tear items on the vehicle so they will replace the AC, exhaust, ball bearings, windshield wipers, anything if it breaks for some reason. Now do any of these things actually break on a Genesis? HKG seem pretty reliable. The G80 Sport I bought was used with 22k miles and looks like it is in good condition. I would be paying $40 extra dollars a month for this "insurance" and it is good for 5 years or 60k miles.

I was wondering if anyone has any horror stories of their experiences of things breaking on their Genesis and had to pay an arm and a leg to get them fixed? Has anyone here had any weird malfunctions like the AC, power steering, power windows, etc? Or should I pass on this option. I feel like I will just be throwing away money with a low probability of things breaking.

Sorry in advance if this is a boring discussion. No one likes to talk about insurance lol. No fun!

First of all, if you bought it in the "Finance Office" it is NOT insurance. It is a Service Agreement either between you and the Car Manufacturer OR you and a 3rd Party.
Secondly, you have to know whether your Agreement is INCLUSIONARY or EXCLUSIONARY. The better agreement will always say "We will replace everything in your car EXCEPT this this and that (Exclusionary Coverage)" The other Agreement says "We will replace ALMOST EVERYTHING LIKELY TO NEED REPAIR... This, this and that" If it is specifically not mentioned by name, IT IS NOT COVERED... AND IF A "COVERED PART" FAILS BECAUSE THE 3RD PARTY DEEMS THAT THE COVERED PART'S FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A NON COVERED PART'S FAILURE... well then neither is covered.

The best coverage is always by the Vehicles Manufacturer, NOT a 3rd party Service Agreement company.

If the pitch for the service agreement began with "Most of our Customers go with this coverage..." chances are is was a profit grabbing 3rd party agreement... They are usually meh, and expensive.

I've owned five Hyundai/Genesis cars since 2006. Under your policy I'd have spent about $6700 . In my case, I had 2 brake jobs, a few wiper blades, a sensor, oil changes. Total about $1200 to $1500. I'd pass on it.

thanks for the info. This is helpful. In my case it is a EXCLUSIONARY plan. They said they will replace everything except for blah blah blah but everything else is covered that you can think of. I did not hear the phrase "Most of our Customers go with this coverage."

Aren't things like ball bearings and wipers considered to be wear items, just like pads, rotors, etc...? If they don't cover wear items, it seems like a bunch of stuff you will eventually need won't be covered. I've never bought any extra insurance or maintenance agreement (despite getting the rubber hose treatment from the finance guy), and have yet to regret it.

Did you buy insurance, or an extended warranty?

You didn’t mention the year of your vehicle. How many months are left on the basic vehicle 5/60,000 warranty?

The 2017+ G80 models are pretty reliable. Most engine and transmission issues will be covered under the factory 5year/60k mile power-train warranty since you are a second hand owner.

If you was buying a 2015 model then I would recommend the extra coverage that includes electronics until 60k miles, but you could probably just save your money on the extra warranty with a 2017+ G80 model.

The 2015 models had some electrical issues like the radio and trunk wiring harness to be concern about which was corrected for the 2017+ models.

Don’t you mean “since 2009”?
The first Hyundai Genesis was the 2009 “Car of the year”. (I had the V8, ZF 6 Speed Transmission).

I loved my Genny, but I had too many let downs and she broke my heart, so I took advantage of the crazy used car market and I sold it.
The problems started with the finish on the wheels and the trim work, everything had to be replaced twice. Then the XM radio kept messing up, they replace the shark fin and tried two different soft ware downloads....still never worked as it should. Then there was a suspension failure light....one trip to the dealer to diagnose, another trip to find out they had the wrong part and then a final trip to finally fix it....a month of messing around. Then the sunroof exploded while on the thruway, nothing hit it, I just heard a noise like a gun shot and I was showered in glass, in the shop for weeks till the fixed it under warranty because I refused to file an insurance claim. Then the nail in the coffin was the right front door handle breaking off in my hand, warm day so the seals were not frozen and the door was unlocked:mad:. My G80 was a real looker, fast and comfortable but I just couldn't deal with the non stop issues anymore. I very seldom keep vehicle beyond the warranty but I only had my Genny for 30months.....I guess I just got a cursed one.....

He said "Hyundai/Genesis" not "Hyundai Genesis". He likely had a Hyundai in the mix.

No, meant what I said, Hyundai/Genesis staring with a 2007 Sonata on 2006. Same corporation, same quality ideology. They have been pretty trouble free. Only expensive issues was a 2015 head unit but that was under warranty so no cost to me.
