  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everybody, I am looking at used cars in my area, and I have found a 2011 Genesis Sedan with the 4.6L v8. I am going to go see it in person today, but I would like to know how expensive it is to do common repairs on it, (alternator, break rotors, break pads, oil change, air filters, new tires, etc). Ive been feverishly researching many cars, and everyone seems to say the 2011 V8 sedan is very reliable. I was originally looking at audi a8s, but those are too unreliable and expensive to maintain, while the genesis v8 seems like a more reliable, less expensive version with the same features almost. Thanks everyone.

Welcome aboard...
Having owned 4 genesis, I would say common repairs, even by a descent dealer, are relatively cost effective given its a large car.
The costly bits to repair are some electrics, like the head unit (around 3k), self leveling headlights ($1.5k+ a pop) and such...

2011 V8 4.6 is very reliable. I have it for 7 years. And it is not GDI engine, so you won't have to worry about carbon deposit on intake valves.

Bought a new 2011 4.6 with tech in Sept. 2010 and put over 220,000 miles on it. Best car we have ever owned in over 45 years. Original brakes lasted over 130,000 miles, never used oil and the zf German built transmission still shifted smooth like new. We had all maintenance done including transmission services replacing pan filter etc. Its a luxury car and some maintenance items can be a bit expensive. Its important to use OEM oil filters. At about 190,000 miles the alternator needed to be replaced and we had dealer put a new one on-cost 800.00.

I have a 2011 4.6, its been a good car for the past year+ that I have owned it. I replaced the alternator at around 90k. Transmission was replaced at about 98k. I had a third party warranty so they paid for the transmission. AC compressor was replaced by the dealer right before i bought it. I would recommend a warranty for your car as well. I am at 103k right now, no other issues.
