  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone know how these work? I know they do operate once in a while so I assume it's after so many times or after x minutes of operation of the windshield washers. They are definitely quite powerful and you can hear the motor that drives them when they do operate.

I believe they only work with the lights on and the car in gear.

What one can learn by reading the manual (page 3-116) :):

Headlamp washer (if equipped)
Washer fluid will be sprayed on the headlamps at the same time you operate the windshield washer when:
1. The Engine Start/Stop button is in the ON position.
2. The light switch is in the headlamp position (low beam).

✽ NOTICE
• Check the headlamp washers periodically to confirm that the washer fluid is being sprayed properly onto the headlamp lenses.
• The headlamp washer can be operated 15 minutes after the last operation.

So if I understand this correctly. Once the car is started, head lights are on and I operate the windshield washer fluid for the first time, the headlamp washers activate at the same time. 15 mins after I have been driving if I pull the stalk they will again operate. They key is the 15 mins then. Thanks

One observation though, the head lamps do not need to be in the on position. In automatic it will also work however the lights must be on or in other words it must be dark enough outside that the lights turn on by themselves.

I wonder why the headlights don't wash when they're off. I'm guessing it's either to save fluid (no sense washing if they're not in use), or because washing wouldn't work on cold headlights--might even make matters worse.

If the headlights are not on, why would you need to keep them clean?

Because it REALLY annoys people with open windows when you're sitting in traffic and you wash your windows. Trust me, before I figured out how they worked. :D

I would like them clean all the time.
Then get out of your car and clean them.:D

They are not really to keep them "clean" but to remove heavy stuff like snow and mud that would create a safety hazzard. That is why they only come on AWD Genesis, and why they only work once every 15 minutes.

If I had that on my car I would disconnect it. Last thing I want is that going off right after I spent a few hours of detailing the car :D

If you just spent a few hours detailing the car - you wouldn't be using the windshield washer either... unless it was raining or otherwise already messing up your car. So.... that's a non-issue.

If you want to clean your windshield at night and activate the wipers to clean your windshield, your hood gets a washing too. I think it is an issue. Just my 2 cents.

So do your A-pillars, your sunroof, your mirrors and your front side windows.... if not more - having nothing to do with the headlamp washers.

It's really a non-issue for me. I guess I'd just wash my car again if a little bit of excess washer fluid bothered me that much.

This is pretty common on European cars, I've had it on euro cars dating back to 1999, and they basically function the same, the head light washers only wash when the headlight bulb is on, when bulb is off, it only washes the windshield.

Some have a time delay before reactivating, such as 15 minutes or it skips 2 cycles of cleaning (unless car was turned off and on again then there is no delay).

So they copied what the euros do for their cars.

Anyone know how to permanently disable them? Definitely not a fan. Black car + water shooting all over the place = pissed off.

Tony

Why is my 3.8L H-trac with Headsup display (in canada it's the tech package, highest on 3.8) doesn't come with this thing. T_T
