  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello!
I couldn't quite find a thread explaining how to change the headlights on a 5.0 with HID bulbs and wanted to check in with yall before spending a weekend and losing my mind.

From what I understand, I'll need to
1. Remove the plastic cowl around the engine bay
2. Remove the bilateral sway bars (12mm)
3. Remove both of the airboxes (tabs and bolts)

Will this allow me access to the D1S bulbs, or will I need to remove the front fascia and headlight housings themselves (Hoping not).

Thanks,

Kolme

You're welcome to attempt it without taking the bumper cover off, but when you inevitably drop a screw for the lamp bracket into the housing you'll see the light.

You also risk damaging the lamps because they're fragile.

Ah ok thanks for the reply Sub. Any threads out there that go through the fascia and headlight removal process? I'm cautious about this car with all the sensors etc.

Headlights has to be removed on the 5.0 to remove the HID bulbs. I had to remove the air-boxes just to access the DRL bulbs. The HID bulb openings are blocked by the chassis with very little room for access to remove the bulbs even if you could take off the bulb covers and unhook the bulbs inside the light housing.

Man I wonder what the dealership would charge to do it. I dont have much time or space these days : /. Already have the bulbs in the mail.

you'd be surprised how quickly the bumper comes off. few push pins and bolts on the top, the screws you can see on the bottom edge of the front spoiler, and three screws and a push pin on the front end of each wheel well. i've done it in 15 minutes.

Oh hmm that doesn't sound too bad actually.

Update, got it all done no major issues. My D1s replacements were a bit tight going in, but no issues otherwise. Will be MUCH faster the next time haha. Thanks all!
