  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How to play movies via usb???

That's what I though at first.
In settings, there is an option, something like "switch to video" then you'll see those files...
I can't check right now, I'm away from my car.

Yeah, the only options are audio ones. Definitely sounds like only the '13-'14 UI can handle actual video files.

This is what I was talking about; while playing .mp3's I hit the "Menu" button and then menu on right side appeared.

I have a 2011 abd mp4s on a stick do not work

Not all jump drives are created equal.
Not tonight though when I found another 16gb Sandisk Cruzer laying around the house.
I then quickly reformatted the drive to wipe out any other security that might have previously been built in.
Copied some mp4 video files then plugged into the usb port in the car then only to find out the Sandisk was not recognized or readable.
Note that I do have another smaller Sandisk jump drive that works jut fine.
I used NTFS drive formatting on that 16gb one and wondering FAT32 might work?

On the side note, choosing 7.1 sound decoding option in "handbrake" does result in some wonderful surround sound despite the original recording was in either 2 ch or Dolby Pro Logic found in some older dvd disc.

Not sure it would help any one out there but after reformatting from NTFS to FAT32 format seems to work fine, guys.
The USB is immediately recognized and plays mp4 files just fine.

Today I tried 2 .mp4 films from a USB stick and they did not play. I will do further testing. I got .wmv files to play just fine.

If anyone knows the best encoding for mp4 that would be helpful.

Use handbrake software. Not sure if its the best, but it's free and it does the job.

MPEG will also play fine on the Genesis 2009 (potentially all the way to 2012?),

Optimal SD @ 720 x 480 4:3 ratio (for both WMV & MPEG II) for a fast USB...
320 X 240 for slower USB.

Thanks for the specs. Using handbrake I was able to convert movie to play in the car. Only problem now is the back screens seem to be stuck on the GPS map. Anyone know how to have the back screens show the movie?

PS: That was working fine last week....

Thanks!

I tried MPEG-2 SD @ 720x480 video file from USB flash drive and it didn't work.

Does anyone know of any firmware/software upgrade (update) that is available to upgrade the UI of 2011 sedan to the latest? I'm tired of using the screen though I have tech package. Also, any update to the GPS which is very very very old and cheaply made.

I have a 2015 Genesis. The owner's manual states that resolutions up to 1280x720 are supported as long as it's not a divx video. It doesn't list .wmv files as one of the supported formats, but the example photo shows a .wmv file. I tried a .wmv file and it does work, but the highest resolution I've got working so far is 852x480 (a slightly cropped 853.3x480 16:9 video).

I tried 1280x720 with both MP4 and WMV formats, but neither has worked. I'm not sure if this is a resolution issue or a bit rate issue (I set the average to 6 mbps).

I didn't even know the Genesis could play videos. My wife got a Genesis 5.0 with the Ultimate package about 2 months ago, and we're still learning stuff about the car.

Back on topic, I'm not sure which model cars the other members have here, but in the case of my wife's car, I was able to get 1280x720 WMV video to play. The specific parameters (from Adobe Premiere Pro settings):

1280 width
720 height
29.97 frames per second
6.0 megabits per second (total constant bit rate)
5.872 megabits per second video (constant bit rate)
0.128 megabits per second audio, 48 khz audio rate (constant bit rate)
video - windows media 9
audio - windows media 9.2

6 mbps is overkill, 4 mbps to 5 mbps should be enough.

I was unable to get H.264 MP4 video to play, with either variable bit rate (5mbps target, 6mbps max) or constant bit rate (5 mbps). I'm not sure if this was an issue with the video or the audio, since my only choice for audio is AAC. The MP4 format I use works with Android smart phones. I'm not sure what MP4 format the Genesis will work with.

I uploaded a 2 minute test video at the link below. It's an 88MB video of my radio control glider (hence the persona rcgldr) at a local slope site where's there's a updraft when the wind blow towards the slope. Again the 6mbps was overkill, but I wanted to see if this would work. This video was made with the settings I listed above. At 88MB, it may not be worth downloading / viewing / transferring unless you're interested in radio control models or a nice view of a small canyon from the slope ridge.

As mentioned in some other posts here, I'm not sure how practical the videos are (although it is cool). I'd be concerned about sitting with the engine running for extended periods of time (carbon monoxide hazard even if the engine doesn't overheat?), or with the engine off and the drain on the battery while watching a video.

I was just testing a few things out, last week. The Digital AVN manual let me know that the Genesis DVD player would not play MP4 videos burned onto a DVD, so I found some software to convert the MP4 to DVD-Video.
Burned a full concert video to a DVD yesterday, and watched it for a few minutes before a drive up to Kenosha. It sounded great on the drive up and back.

curious to know if a 2013-2014 rspec navigation is able to work on a 2012 r spec

I'd like to figure out a way to get the videos to play while in motion. I think it'd be cool to entertain my passengers.

Anybody here know about watching videos in a 2019?? G70
