Plasti-dipped the front grille on my 2015 Genesis sedan, but cannot get a complete look because of the clear plastic protection for the smart CC. Is there any way to remove it to Plastic-Dip the remaining 2 chrome pieces underneath? I can feel 2 screws on either side of the piece, but can't get to them with a screw driver. Only way I can see is to remove the shroud on top of the radiator to get to it, but not sure how to remove. Any suggestions? Obviously will re-install plastic when finished. Thanks!

Why not tape that area off, leaving the chrome exposed to be dipped?

The problem is that the clear plastic piece is covering the chrome. The only way to get to the chrome to dip it is to remove it. That's the dilemma.

I was under the impression that the plastic rectangle in the middle of the grill had the chrome strips printed on it to make it look like part of the grill. This is a radar gizmo for emergency braking & cruise control and putting any kind of paint or dip on it may make it malfunction.

Thanks! Yep, manual says it should never be covered or painted, which will cause malfunction. I need to call the dealership and see what they have to say.

Tint it

Would tinting it affect the functioning of the smart CC/ER braking?

Genesis radar implementation is one of worse designs...couldn't they have designed a better unit so it doesn't stick out like it was an after-thought

I wouldn't cover it with anything. Mine freaks out when there's a leaf or a snowflake on it. Get that "Check AEB" light on my dash.

I actually tinted it. Turned off the smart CC. Hate using it unless driving on a long trip. I can peel it off whenever I need to access. 5 % tint did the trick.

Is the AEB still working or is that turned off too? You should get a warning on the dash if it has a problem. Maybe the tint you applied is OK and does not interfere with the radar.

Did you remove the bumper or just the grille? If just the grille, then how did you do it because I want to blacken my grille also...

Its 4 screws hold the cover, you need to remove the front bumper to get it off. My coworker bought one and the dealership drilled the license on to the cover, he had no malfunctions even to the license plate was in front of it.

Yeah that isn’t the grille behind the sensor, that is the sensor with the grille design ‘printed’ on it to blend with the grille.

And yeah one of the worst designs ever. Circa 2005 Mercedes. Most manufacturers now blend it into their logo, or hide it in lower grille, or even as part of the headlights, some of the newer Lexus and Audi I believe have a fake projector in the headlights that is the ACC radar.

Did you ever paint your grill? If so, how did you blend in the plastic eye sore?

You tinted it to 5% and it still works? I am thinking about "wrapping" it with chrome delete black.
