  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone. This is my first post on the forum.

I am potentially looking at purchasing a used 2016 Genesis with the 3.8 V6. I know there are three difference options offered: Signature, Tech, Ultimate, and that each one builds on the other.

My question is, how do you tell which options the car has without running the VIN? I've been viewing Autotrader ads, and the only point of data that is popping out to me, is the addition of the ventilated seat button on the cars equipped with the Signature package. I also see that AWD models come with a heated steering wheel..

How can one tell if the Tech and Ultimate packages are on the vehicle? Anything you can tell me would be most appreciated.

Ultimate package will have the jog dial behind the shifter.
Tech package will have the Auto Hold button next to the Drive Mode button at the shifter.

Thanks for the info.
When you say 'jog-dial' behind the shifter, do you mean the rotary knob?
Also, do you have a pic of what the AUTO-HOLD button looks like?

It seems like the most of the 2016 3.8's I'm seeing online, are the base version, which I find strange.

Yes, the rotary knob. Auto Hold is just a black button labeled as such, more or less rectangular on the consul.

Perfect! Thanks Ed. I'll keep my eyes out for it.

Does anyone have an idea what percentage of 2016 have the ultimate package?

Also, are there any issues for reliability to the AWD system Hyundai used? If I purchase a Genesis, it will be used in the Kansas/Nebraska/S. Dakota area. I will get winter ice/snow tires for the car, but trying to decide if AWD is needed. I would prefer to stay RWD, but hadn't seen much regarding the AWD Genesis.

I saw the same thing regarding packages. You have to remember the Ultimate was a $53,000 Hyundai - there are definitely going to be fewer of those on the used market right now.

BINGO! Thanks James. That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Agreed -finding a loaded 3.8 might be a challenge, but now I know what to look for.

I'm now researching reliability....which I know NOTHING about, but hoping it's not a deal killer.

The signature package and up has the side window shades and you might be able to see the pull tabs even in the retracted position.

The tech and ultimate packages have the radar cover on the grill above the license plate.

The ultimate has the jog dial, larger 9" display and matte wood trim. Also ivory interior only comes in ultimate trims.

Also I believe the awd ultimate has control buttons for heated rear seats and rear power shades on the rear seat center fold down arm rest. But someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

That is correct

There are not many 2016 coming in the market yet in California . Not sure about other markets in US . Since 2015 is almost over now , its getting 4 years old .

Not sure when the 2016's lease end starts.

I believe the tech package also upgrades the nav/dash displays size.

One thing to consider, if you're interested in the Android/Apple interface with the factory entertainment system, you'll lose that the the ultimate as the nav/stereo hardware is incompatible. Hence why I turned down the ultimate when car shopping and went with the sig/tech package. Still a lot of options for the price.
