  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How can you test the collision avoidance with out hitting something?

Does the 2018 G80 base model have collision avoidance system that brakes or just a warning system?

It will brake. There is no easy test. You have to have some mass, not just a paper or foil barrier for it to work. A few people here have had it activate and work well.

You can see a demo here

there are Youtube s of people creating a a pseudo rear of a car with PVC pipes and paper- and it worked

It was either Motor Trend or Car & Driver that did a comparison tests of Auto Emergency Braking on a Cadillac, Subaru, Audi (? Not sure) and Toyota. They had a wide range of performance with the Subaru trumping all the others. Moving at a 30 mph speed all passed. At 35 only the Subaru managed to stop before a collision. In fact the Subaru still avoided the collision at 45 mph. Another chart indicated the speed of the car at point of collision and, though I don't recall the exact data, the Subaru entered the collision at a much lower speed -- hence a less severe accident. I'd really love these tests to be mandatory so buyers can also evaluate collision mitigation when shopping for a new car. Unfortunately we as consumers have no way of doing a comparison or guesstimating how well a Genesis or any other car might perform.

Sure, a standardized test at a couple of speeds would be good. Would also be good if they could say, yes, it collided but not so bad. At 45 mph it slowed it to a XX mph crash.
At 60 mph is automatically calls a lawyer for you.

I tried to have my dumb neighbor stand in front of the car while I was doing 100 miles an hour but he refused! Go figure!!
