If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I live in Alberta, Canada and we get a LOT of snow and road is really icy(nasty) from OCT to APR.

I was going to buy a Subaru Legacy 3.6 but also 2015~2016 genesis is in my price range.

Genesis will be more luxurious for sure but how's the AWD system? I try to find some info for Htrac but can't really find much.

I haven't owned any subarus but owned nissan and toyotas AWD vehicles which have a part-time AWD(fake) system sending only 10-20% of

power to the rear for the most of the time . I know Htrac is part time too but how stable is the car on the snow and the icy road? and how's

the snow mode? is the car actually send 30~50% power to the front on snow mode?

Thank you.

I thought snow mode was mostly affecting the transmission shift points, and "maybe" (not sure) starting in 2nd gear from a dead stop.

One thing about the Genesis H-Track is that it lowers MPG (or KPG) to a much higher degree than most other AWD systems (when compared to the RWD models).

I am also in Canada, although not with as much snow as Alberta and I find the combination of HTRAC and Winter Tires more than capable in any of the snow and ice conditions I have encountered. These include trips to Montreal and Quebec City in winter. The Traction Control system is quite sophisticated and in Snow Mode it will default to a 50:50 front/rear torque split and vary up to 80:20 in either direction according to conditions or requirements. There is also electronic braking control of each wheel to avoid slip. I don't think you will be disappointed with this system. For relevance, I have driven an Audi Quattro A6 extensively and overall I like the (much newer) Genesis system better. The main reason is that on dry roads in Sport mode the car acts more like a RWD sedan whereas the Audi is always AWD. In Snow Mode the transmission starts in second gear unless you really nail the throttle and will change up to a higher gear faster than in normal or sport mode. BTW, the HTRAC AWD system is full-time.

It's a very sophisticated AWD system which operates quite well and as mentioned, has various settings that change the dynamics. The hardware is designed and manufactured by Hyundai, but the computer software that makes it all work for different conditions is actually from Magna International in Aurora Ontario. This is the same supplier of BMW's i-drive, but Hyundai's version is a newer updated version. There are some youtube videos explaining more on how this system operates.

I live in Alberta too and enjoying the same road. The AWD on Genesis is quite capable and I actually drive it in sport mode most of the time (I am talking about winter and on snow and ice). In heavy snow I may go back to normal mode. Snow mode is an overkill and I have barely used it.
I haven't been happy with Hyundai service and support and won't stay with them. Again, to be fair and to answer the question, driving on snow/ice is very composed.

Hope it helps.

Any bad experience with their service? I live in Edmonton. Good to hear the awd system is decent. Thank you.

From what I have read here, it very much depends on the Dealer. I have had excellent service from my local Dealer, which partly explains why I am on my third Genesis, but that is not the case everywhere. I suspect that the situation will get better once the separate Genesis brand is established, since that will be a key factor in attracting and keeping customers.

Unfortunately yes. West-ed has been really disappointing and disrespectful (unlike their sale department). I am changing the dealer for my next visit.
