  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I got a new windshield installed by Safelight on my '18 G90 Premium, and now the HUD is so dim as to be unusable in the daytime. The tech said it was an OEM windshield, and the recalibration was completed successfully.

I searched with AI and, although rare, I did find a Reddit about the same issue concerning a BMW.

The consensus was that it's got to be the new windshield glass not being OEM, or a recalibration issue.

I looked at the passenger side lower corner of the new windshield, and there is a Genesis logo, followed by the letters KAC, then DOT 748 AS1 M4.733 underneath that.

Could I beseech someone with a 1st gen G90 to check if that matches their windshield?

I do not have polarized sunglasses, so that's not the issue, and I received a recalibration certificate from Safelight.

Thanks

It may be OEM glass - but it likely is for a different model of car with the same windscreen dimensions that doesn't have HUD (cheaper alternative). HUD ready glass is different than non, and some have an area on the glass that is intended for HUD projection.

I took a quick picture...hopefully you can see it. I have a 2018 G90 V8 AWD....I do notice that it says " HUD" in the print .Does your replacement have that printed?

Thanx for that Warren... yes, the replacement head light does have HUD on the left lower corner

So I'm certain at this point that I have an OEM windshield

Last Saturday the tech for Safelite replaced the windshield, plugged in the car, and recalibrated the camera, radar, etc. with mobile equipment he set up in my garage. This mobile recalibration equipment is apparently new to Safelite, so they don't know it real well

Besides the HUD issue, every 4th or 5th time I start the car, the car starts with the dashboard illumination at its lowest setting, and I have to push the + button on the dash illumination switch to have the dash light up. (Unfortunately, that does not increase the HUD brightness)

So at this point I think the mobile recalibration equipment the tech used has messed with some settings in the computer

Speaking of settings, I have gone thru every setting on the steering wheel scroll wheel, as well as in "Set Up" on the main menu, and it has made no difference

I took the car to Safelite yesterday, and the tech agreed with me that the HUD was not visible when the headlights are on with a light background. He plugged their scanner into the car and messed around for a while and thought he had it fixed, but he didn't

I have an another appointment with Safelite next week, but I get the feeling that they're flying blind, and will eventually give up and say it's not their fault and it's a problem with the car

At night or with the headlights off, I can see the HUD just fine, but in daylight with the headlights on, it's useless. And I always have my headlights on, day or night

Any suggestions what I should do?

Unfortunately

I would say taking it to the dealer sounds like the next step

My HUD display is clear night or day
