  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate RWD here. Recently replaced my windshield due to damage from rocks on freeway. My windshield was replaced with an aftermarket glass that is supposed to be OEM equivalent. However, now my HUD info looks slightly tipped to the right. I checked my HUD monitor and it's secure. I'm thinking it's just a slight difference in curvature of the glass? My OCD is kicking me...

Also, is a calibration required? The glass company said it isn't and they do all of the Genesis dealership's replacements but the insurance co had me give the dealership an application for reimbursement for a calibration just in case. I don't trust my dealership and they insist it's necessary. However, they want me to pay upfront, which doesn't make since because they have the reimbursement form from the insurance co.

Calibration requires Hyundai GDS.

The tipping is likely due to different thickness of epoxy on the glass. There are a huge amount of adjustments available to compensate in HUD controller.

Is that something I need the dealership techs to get into a programming mode for?

Or a capable aftermarket shop. I believe only Hyundai GDS has the calibration function though- which may limit you to dealer only.

GDS is the dealer diagnostic software and computer.

If you don't trust your dealership why are they your dealership?

They are the only Genesis authorized dealership in New Mexico... I wouldn't be there if I didn't have to. I've had several warranty things to take care of.

You have a Hyundai- you can go to any Hyundai dealer for support. There's nothing "unique" about Genesis other than it was rebranded.

2017 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate RWD. Yesterday, my windshild was just replaced with after market glass. Mine also tilts to the right and also when in the sun, I can not see the display and in other situations it is very dim.
Question: I was also told by glass shop that it would need no calibration. Were you able to get yours corrected by a calibration?

I've re-adjusted mine with the knock off GDS device.

The glass installer should make thing right. If they can be adjusted, fine, they do it and all is good. If it cannot be fixed it can be the fault of a poor grade of glass. There is one specific to cars with the HUD. Again, it is up to them to make it right.

My HUD is a bit off too. I adjusted rotation max left and it is still just very slightly tilted to the right.
Bought used but it still has Genesis branded windshield so don't think that's the issue.

The unit I purchased back in 2018 (ebay, but seller is no longer there) is this one...

Referred to as VCI GDS. Lots of online sellers of these. You might find it cheaper. But make sure you get the software disks. Some sell it without and you absolutely need it. The disks I got with the unit had a virus. Don't load the 'Daemon' program that comes with it. You'll need it so find it online. The one from AliExpress has firmware 2.24 and I managed to find 2.28 and got that working. I found 2.30, tried installing that and nearly bricked the unit. Be careful when upgrading firmware.

I haven't used it in years but it has tons of functions. I adjusted the heads up display (many more settings than without it) and programmed a second key using it.

If you're a tinkerer, you need this tool. Lots of functions for diagnosing but it is limited. The software shows screenshots of a oscilloscope function but I could never get that to work. None of the firmware upgrades helped, so I think it needed more hardware.

One really cool feature it has/had is it communicated to hyundai and logged your service report. (A service report is generated every time you run a scan. You do not have to upload that scan) It will store that report and you can download other users uploads. This feature is for dealers only but I figured out a way to get around that by using dealer codes listed on the window sticker. The last time I tried using that feature... it wouldn't work. They may have figured out it was used by unauthorized users.

Again... if you're into doing things yourself, buy it. But it does have a bit of a learning curve, so expect some time investment.

I installed it on a laptop with Win7. Be aware it may not work on Win10.

Duh. Could it be that is why calibration is suggested/required? I have had HUDs for a number of years and had to replace windshields and they always recalibrated after replacing the windshield.
