  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Bluelink shutting down service

Unreal. How is that not considered a warranty item?
It does seem like there should be some recourse for you for not getting the full three years of included services.

Yeah, I've seen a few of your other posts that mentioned that you worked in an automotive adjacent field. I can forgive a 4 year dev cycle. That makes sense, especially for a component that needs to have a 10 year lifespan. Cutting edge doesn't work in that situation. This isn't that. This reeks of Hyundai just not wanting to spend the extra few nickels on a newer modem. This platform carried through to 2020, I wonder if any of the 19's or 20's are affected?!?
It also affects the value of our cars. Yes, it may have been to save money at the time. I know technology gets outdated but the lag here is too long; they knew there was updates.

I've mentioned the four year thing because people sometimes think the 2023 models are still on the drawing board and won't be finalized until a few days before production. It does not work that way when thousands of parts have to come together at the same time. We supplied the auto suppliers.

With me only buying used cars, considering a Genesis that has a system that wont tap out early will be difficult at best.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Recieved the email this morning; service will end at the end of the year. Well, this sucks! I use the remote start at least twice/day.

I bought my 2019 Genesis G80 new in January 2019. I switched from Cadillac and thought I made a good move. I like four door sedans rather than crossovers. Well, I was wrong. First, we all went through months of issues where Genesis blamed XM for issues with the XM operation and Apple CarPlay. I never liked the fact that I had to use an app to start the car and couldn't use the key fob if I were close enough like I could with my GM vehicles. The app wasn't that responsive but was handy if I was in a building and needed to heat the car up for a bit before I left. Now, this connected service is going away because they put together a new car with technology they knew was ending within a few years and there was no means to upgrade it. My 2018 GMC Sierra has OnStar and just got an over the air software update to prepare for the 3G changes. OnStar/GM has been preparing for this since the 2016 models. A few of my neighbors have Lincolns. One with a 2017 Lincoln got a notice that their car had a 3G modem, but that Lincoln could upgrade it for about $500. And my 3 year old Genesis with less than 6,000 miles on it will just lose a feature because of poor design/planning. Guess what manufacturer's cars I won't be buying in the future?

I don't think this affects most if not all Genesis models 15 and on. You can enter your vin via the link below to see if your vehicle is affected.

That was about 2G. The email I received yesterday was telling me that 3G is gone at the end of this year, and yes most Genesis vehicles up to 2020 will be affected.

Oh okay thanks for the info. I am actually close to purchasing a used 2016 Genesis 3.8 with signature/ultimate package (24k miles). I currently have a 2012 Genesis that has been a great car. But I have been waffling on the new purchase over the carplay/AA feature that I would like to have. There is now a mod to add this feature that requires some disassembly and installation. I can handle that. But this latest news about the blue link is disappointing. I have another 16 (Tuscon) and we really enjoy having this service. I may have to rethink my purchase plans.

So when 3G goes away I’m assuming the basic navigation will still work correct?

The 2015 and 2016 Hyundai Genesis are not affected by this.

This is the notification dealers got from Hyundai.

HMA Dealer Portal - HMA Dealer Portal
Affected vehicles include all 2012-2014 Blue Link equipped vehicles, 2015 Blue Link equipped vehicles (except Sonata with Navigation and Hyundai Genesis), and 2016 Blue Link equipped Santa Fe, Equus, Elantra, Elantra GT, Veloster (Non-Navigation), and Sonata Hybrid vehicles.
I received the e-mail and I have a 2015 Genesis using 3G CDMA.

When GarnetTY1473 said that one year ago, he was correct. Now that 3G is also being shut down, Genesis up to 2019 and maybe some 2020 model year are also affected.

I missed that. Thanks for clearing it up. In any case, the news sucks. Looks I'll be buying a car soon. Shame too. I like my 2015 Genesis with less than 20K miles.

Yes, it does seem odd to me that they haven't designed a replacement or add-on module to update the existing cars, even if at customer expense. (The offer that I would expect would be for the module at no cost if you agree to x amount of prepaid services.)

It’s quite possible that the mailing was incorrectly sent to more recent owners.

HOWEVER, I recall seeing a photo of a new car with a large yellow lemon painted on the front doors. The owner parked it on the public street in front of his dealer. ‘Nuff said.

It wouldn’t take much to form some convoys of Genesis owners parked in front of their dealerships with similar objectives. Just sayin’.

Still not sure if my 2020 G70 is affected, but for cars only 2 or 3 years old, if affected, Genesis just devalued a bunch of cars by not having an upgradable system to keep functions that came with the car usable as designed. They would have known at least in 2019 that in 2022 3G was going away.
