  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,
I have an issue with my car. It's passed 100k Km's, but it's been doing it for a few months now.
Every now and then, when I press hard on the gas pedal, the car revs up to 4000 rpm, then it gets stuck there, I lose all power and the car stalls, as if i'm braking hard (but i'm not). The needle stays stuck at 4000 rpm.
After about 2-3 seconds, power comes back and it's all good.

Since I was desperate, I thought it was a transmission issue and wanted to see where this thing was getting stuck at...so I tried to replicate the problem and as soon as it happened, I switched it to sports mode to see which gear it was at. The car was stuck on 3rd gear, however, when i did that, the car's revs started going nuts, going between 2000 and 4000, up and down, and the car doing a stop and go on its own (with my foot on the gas, all the time). Obviously, I had to quickly put it back on drive...

I am hesitating to go to the dealership for 2 reasons:
1. my warranty is done...
2. They always want you to reproduce the issue..but it's tough to reproduce...however, i am worried this issue is hiding a far bigger issue...

Have any of you ever experienced something similar to this? I am so worried, i'm thinking of trading the car in (instead of selling it to someone...).

Thanks!

My 2013 5.0 does the same thing, pretty sure it's spinning the tires and the ESC is grabbing the brakes until it decides that the tires are firmly planted again.

Mine does this with ESC "off" as well.

It sucks because it really takes the whole R-Spec down a peg or two.

I think your car is fine and is doing what it was designed to do but other may have different answers for you.

My car does something similar - though the one thing different is my car just wont shift and the RPMs will fly up to redline (they do not stop at 4k for example)
1) I am turning sharply (like a tight uturn) and floor it mid turn
2) If the car is not warmed up at all and I want to floor it

I think the ESC is pretty intrusive and I believe it should be with the size tires we have
and I also think the computer is not very aggressive with the engine output or transmission shifting unless the car is 100% warmed up.

I will also suggest
1) have you had the transmission fluid replaced via a drain/fill at the dealership yet? I had mine done around 82,000 miles and I swear the transmission is much more happy and ok to get aggressive.
2) have you removed the air intake flaps? That also helps a ton in certain situations. The service tech at the dealership where I live has a 2014 Equus and he noticed a huge improvement when removing the main flap

.......So glad to find this thread but so sad it even exist.......Im having the same issue with my 2009 4.6.... right now have about 92k mileage but it started about 2-3k miles ago...........it will rev up to about 4k when it gets stuck in STUPID and when i throw the shift knob over i see its stuck in 3rd gear ( a few times 2nd gear ) and wont let you down shift or up shift, throw it back into drive and trans still stuck in STUPID mode.....but now i noticed once i cut the car off and back on it will run fine up until i want to step on the gas pedal and QUICKLY accellerate.......if i accelerate slowly it will get up & go 80-90 mph ( no problem )..........
its just when you want to accelerate QUICKLY.....

.........has anyone have this issue and found the problem

.......Im wondering if i should change my throttle body now.....

sounds like loss or traction and esc kicking on.

I experience this when I had crap tires on.
