  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Duane's service idea (here) got me thinking... What types of questions should we ask in a survey? I'll purchase software to take care of the tracking and results if we can come up with something useful....

We need a way to tally up all the problems. I suppose the car would have to be broke down into catagories.........engine, suspension, Nav system, etc. or trouble free. I wonder if the catagories should be fairly basic with maybe a place for the owner to state a short detailed message possibly?

For example owners with Nav sytem problems - 1 % then maybe have a place for details like.........lost address data. Of course we need an idea how many cars are registered so we can get an idea of the percentage of the total cars effected.

I guess I was thinking it would be hard to create a catagory for every little detailed problem. That is why I thought maybe just general catagories and then a place to plug in the fine detail.

Just my thoughts...........although I was just suggesting a basic idea I am sure many of you will have better idea's I haven't even considered. This forum is kind of like a team and no doubt this will require a team effort.

But Mr. HyundaiGenesis you do such a great job with this site and no doubt you already devote lots of time to it. While I think this whole thing would be nice to do, if it is to much to take on I can not ask you to do it.

I am just thankful for all you have done!! Also I know you have some guys helping you out now and I wanted to thank those guys to!!! keep up all the great work. I hate to say it but with the way Hyundai has drug its feet on all information, especially prior to now, it has made you guys and this forum a more important source of information than Hyundai themselves.

Oh I also wanted to say that somewhere down the line consumer reports or someone will do this anyway so if the members here feel like it isn't worth it on this site I could understand that as well. Thanks again.

Sorry, I've had very little time to participate lately.. Having surveys here is a fine idea. TrueDelta does surveys for every make and model. Our surveys would be more robust and in-depth since all efforts would be made in regards to the Hyundai Genesis. The focus could/would be much more intense where everyone is participating in one survey regarding the same vehicle.

I'll lend a hand any way I can. Properly wording survey questions is much harder than it seems.

On the reliability side of things, a joint effort might make a lot of sense. I've structured the survey process in such a way that it yields the best possible results given that it does not start from a random sample. The typical online survey yields far less reliable results.

I already post a description for every repair submitted to the site. What someone here could do, if they were so inclined, is further categorize those descriptions to identify which specific problems are most common and post the results of that analysis here.

The main reliability survey is described here:

Vehicle reliability research

Individual responses for the Genesis will be posted here (none yet):

Hyundai Genesis repair histories

I can say that usually "common problems" are usually much less common than people think.

The same might be done with TrueDelta's "Why (Not) This Car?" survey, if enough owners participated in that one (it's not required of people who sign up for the main survey). It asks people why they bought the car they did and didn't buy the one they did not. Currently I just post individual responses to the site, and don't analyze them. Again, someone so inclined might tabulate the responses in some way and post the results here.

Why (Not) This Car?

For a different survey conducted here, I'd suggest a similar structure. You'll get much more meaningful results if the respondents' reference point is clear. For example, when saying that the ride isn't smooth, what other car are they comparing it to?
