Hyundai - Genesis Technology Similarities

Pretty much every review of the G70 mentions that Genesis is using the Hyundai Infotainment in the G70. Most if not all agree that it's a very good system but Genesis should do something more to distinguish the Genesis system from the Hyundai system, myself included. It looks like that is the case with the GV80 and presumably going forward, which is good!

However, I was out of town on the weekend and rented a Hyundai Elantra for a few days. I was really nice to be able to just plug my phone in and carry on using Android Auto exactly the same way I use it in my G70. There was no learning curve and it just worked. No issues. It's a really good system and hopefully as Genesis does more to distinguish themselves from Hyundai they don't lose the ease of use aspect! In addition, the controls in the car were the same for the most part and had the same function and ease of use. It was really nice to have that familiarity!

I was impressed with the Elantra. It drove nice, had decent acceleration and lots of room in the front, back and trunk! What really came to light though was the terrible gas mileage my G70 gets in the 3.3T spec.. We drove the Elantra what seemed like EVERYWHERE and by the end of the trip still had a 1/2 of gas left. Crazy!

I hear you on the gas. I just had a Fusion hybrid for a few days and 415km of city driving cost me only $28 to fill (~29 liters). That is about a full tank on the G70 lol And it is a smaller car!

And Android auto (and Apple car play) have been great for use in rentals. Now you never need to worry about nav in a strange city, as you just plug your phone in and you have everything. Every time I rent I ask for something that has andriod auto and most look at me confused so I ask for what they have in stock. Basically every Ford and chev for the last few years has had it. Imports are a little more all over the place.

My parents just bought a Kia Forte (virtually identical to the Elantra) and I found the same thing, it is crazy how much of it is identical to my G70. Too much in fact. But good for the Forte owners. For less than half price, my parents have the same size car with more rear seat room, the identical nav screen and driver assist functions and basically every option. Sure it is gutless, but they are retired and only care about gas mileage and for that it is great. Good to know I paid an additional $30K for awd, a bigger motor and HUD. (I know there is more to it but still lol)

Bought a 2020 Tucson for my wife about 6 weeks ago, basically everything is the same as my G70. I am having one problem though, My G70's remote start etc works perfectly everytime but the Tucson Doesn't work at my home. Maybe there is a difference. I feel there is something wrong with my Tucson but Bluelink, Hyundai and my dealer refuse to help. Beware of Hyundai they don't have the warranty they advertise, I know Genesis is Hyundai I hope it fares better if there's a problem.

My wife's older Sonatas and the new Kona all have the same buttons layout in the steering wheel as my Genesis, the hood latch and other buttons in the dashboard are positioned the same as my Genesis. There is no doubt that Hyundai tried to keep the same "driver's accessibility" on all its cars.
