From this link looks like they are under the impression we will see the 2015 later this year. Not sure if that is correct reporting or not. I've been thinking about ditching my iphone anyway. Tired of the Apple approach to tech. No Flash, not compatible with other toys.. yep. Something out there seems a bit better.

I wonder if this will make it easier for the bad guys to hack your car or harder

That makes sense, and it is the best choice. It will probably not have any impact on iPhone or other integration. If anything, it will be better.

A car's electronics has to have an OS. And, if you think about it, there are really only four choices: iOS, Linux, Microsoft, or custom/proprietary. iOS is out, because I don't think Apple allows it on any non-Apple product. Microsoft is viable, but I think it is too bulky for a light weight, inexpensive, mass-produced product. Everything used to be custom or proprietary, but Linux pretty much killed that as an option for most vendors. So, that leaves Linux. Why use generic Linux with Android out there as an existing, lean-mobile variant?

I'm all in favor of an open OS. Also, imagine having Google Maps for navigation purposes!!!!! WOOT ! ! ! No more $345 updates
