  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
I have been attempting to get a mpl update on my 2010 Genesis Sedan. Dealer imforms they cannot due to the complexity. I called Hyundai USA and all they said was keep asking the dealer to perform the work and gave me a case number. Dealer says they did one and damaged the radio and had to replace it themselves with no support from Hyundai USA. WOW. More information than i need to know. Sad to hear the limited support Hyundai USA gives their dealers. Was about to buy a new Genesis or Equus, not sure now. Just posting to keep you all aware.

You not sure you are going to buy a new Genesis because 10 years from now there might be some functionality they might not longer support? Really?

I understand. I have the same situation with my 386 computer. IBM is letting me down on support and I want to get a second 20 MB hard drive for it.

thats really not the issue, this has been ongoing for 4 years, just no clarity, if its obsolete, say it. The point is communication. New or old, its all about communicating properly. This is also my opinion.

That's what happens when the idiot service manager doesn't follow HMA's instructions and bricks the head unit, and then the dealership owner tells the SM that the next one he bricks is coming out of his pay.

Yes the root cause is that Hyundai didn't build a robust enough low level firmware management system to support updates, and the dealers have to keep the car running (yes, running) while doing the updates that take about 4 hours.

So yeah it's mostly Hyundai's (Korea not America) fault for crappy software design.

Try another dealer. Better yet, just use your smartphone. Nav is free.

You need to find another dealer. We had issues back with the early Genesis sedans needing head units after a map update. I don't know what the issue was back then, I didn't perform the updates. At my current dealership, I do most of the map updates, and I have done several on the early Genesis in the past couple years without problems.
