If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone. Please take it easy on me, as this is my first post, and I don't know much about cars, haha.

I was really hoping to get the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T, but then the question of Hyundai reliability was raised. Historically, Hyundai hasn't exactly been a great brand, so my question is, has the Genesis Coupe changed all that? Has Hyundai outdone themselves, and actually made a reliable car that stays together solidly over time?

Oh, and when you post, it'd be great if you told me how long you've had your car.

Thanks in advance!

I suggest you pay a visit to Consumer Reports and JD Power and decide for yourself. Everyone has an opinion, but fact based research is the only true way to answer this question. We have owned two Hyundai's - a 2007 Santa Fe CUV with 57k on the odo and it has seen nothing but oil and filter changes and is going strong. I consider it a very solid vehichle. We downsized from a Acura MDX and while it is tighter inside, the mileage is definitely better (22 vs 18 avg.). Then a week ago I bought a 2010 Genesis 3.8 Sedan to replace a Acura TL that will take up residence at our FL home this Fall. This car is amazing. Smooth as silk and is loaded with comfort and convenience features. It gives up nothing to the Big names in any category, but the price is about 70% of the so-called "established brands".
Good luck with your decision. Hyundai as a brand has very strong momentum and highly rated cars in every category. And it is hard to beat the warranty if you have any remaining doubts. Hyundai's are value leaders.

Haha, thanks. I'll look into some more research, and I didn't even consider the sources you brought up.

Thanks again!!!

ive had mine for alil over a year now and ive had no problems but one. If you get a tire rotation make sure Hyundai does it or if you are going to bring it somewhere else let them know that the back tires are wider then the front. They accidentally put my back tires on the front of my car and i was having traction control problems for while after.

3 Hyundais so far in our family (2007 Santa Fe, 2009 Elantra Touring, 2010 Genny Coupe 2.0T). No problems with either of them.
Paint seems to be a bit sensitive and some plastic surfaces on the inside don't wear that nicely, but they are very reliable.
Having the right dealer for service is a bit factor though, our current one is great, the previous one needs to be closed down..lol

Good cars, good prices, get the Coupe , but I cannot recommend the M/T on the 2.0T . It works but is far from smooth.... (as in it sux).

Hey, so it's been a while. I went to the dealership today, and test drove the Gen Coupe. I saw though, that it had the hood alignment problem on all of them. Does this become a problem later on? Has the interior condition changed over time?

IMO hyundai has great reliability in the past. They were good then, they are even better now, especially the genesis.

Most recent Hyundais are quite reliable. The Genesis Coupe has been a bit of an exception, based on responses to TrueDelta's Car Reliability Survey. But it's quite possible that glitches will be limited to the first model year--too soon to tell, since the 2011s only recently arrived.

It's not good, but I wouldn't quite say it sucks. We're still talking less than one repair trip per car. And the updated stat we'll be releasing in November will be a little better.

I have 22k mls on mine now and no real issues so far.
Tire wear was bad (21k mls for the rears), but can't blame the car for that, can we.;)
Some squeaks (sunroof every now and then), tranny is not the best, but no defect requiring a dealer visit. I drive in southeast Michigan, roads are terrible, but nothing fell off or is rattling. electrical without any issues.
Its the first year of this model, so some problems are to be expected. Good so far though.

What with the "hood alignment problem"? So the gap is not exactly the same on both sides, so what? Doesn't affect the function nor is it so bad that the eyes start hurting looking at it. Reporting this as an issue is a bit much, is it?

I have the same concerns after seeing truedelta's 2010 94/100 [issues] rating but I read through them and most of them are still:

-Hood misalignment
-Sunroof rattle
-Headlight condensation
-Alignment
-No start issues
-Brake light switch malfunctions (related to no start)
-MT issues

IMO, these are not major issues to me (MT doesn't apply), though they can be rather annoying if they happen often.

I'm hoping the 2011 3.8 Track AT (GT brakes are just too mushy.. who the hell thought single piston calipers were sufficient?!) doesn't have these issues, but something is telling me I should just expect them. The car is garaged and will only be driven <7500 miles a year.

What else should I be looking out for?

Are there threads on here that compile MY/model issues?

I actually think it's likely that Hyundai will have fixed most and perhaps even all of these glitches with the 2011. The great majority of first-year issues are minor these days. Powertrain problems during the first 100k miles are rare.

The main thing these stats tell me is that Hyundai did not test the car as thoroughly as they should have before launching it.
