  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Shutting Down their Engine Development Team

Seems a little pre-mature. I realize that electric vehicles are the future and I certainly wouldn't object to that being my next car, but I am not convinced they've solved all of the battery issues with electric vehicles.

Our ICE-engined vehicles are either going to be complete dinosaurs in 10 years or will be worth a boatload.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The (near) future is electric for those that live in countries that can afford them and have the power infrastructure to support them. I see this being just like film cameras, video stores and smart phones. Seemingly overnight, we will look back and remember "those cars we used to fill with flammable liquids"...

I suppose for markets that will still use ICE vehicles, the engines they have now will suffice.. Anyways, better for a company to embrace the future then get left in the past.

So no more new internal combustion engines. But production of ICE cars will still keep going on with existing engines till demand diminishes. Probably the way all other manufacturers are going.

It will be an interesting 10 years. Metal for batteries is getting tight, though new batteries may come on line with no lithium. Infrastructure is at max at times now o change needed there. Charging stations are being added but you still have to plug them into something on the other end.

Nothing insurmountable but having the right thing in the right place at the right time will be challenging.

HMG says that hydrogen fuel cells are really where it’s at, and that’s where they’re spending their R&D money.

I love that we as a society are moving towards EV's but scared because I now a lot of the electrical grid isn't ready, and won't be any time soon. I work to support a major part of the nations grid, so I have a lot of inside info in the matter, not just some rambling conspiracy theory here.

Ask your self "where will all those extra/new watts come from?" If you don't know the answer, you now see the problem. IN a lot of areas the grid is just barely keeping up with current demands, and now we are removing supply capacity (coal) at a rapid pace. It's a prefect storm of supply and demand about to turn ugly.

they are not the only ones. Mercedes Benz announced over a year ago that they would not be investng in any future ICE development.

Yup, you’re correct Aquineas. In fact, this story:

Says they are shutting down because of ”technological and marketability limitations.” Two weeks after the worlds greatest living engineer “retires”.

Marketability limititations? These arrogant ignorant MF’s had me bought, 100%. Hook, line, sinker. I believed in ”their future”. I was in!!! And now? I feel like a sucker! I just want to cry…

Will there still be a next gen G70(ICE) now or what we have now most likely it? I would have liked to have options in the future as opposed to the EV only choices we’re headed towards.

It was my understanding of the article that no new design will be started. Those that are in design (maybe) or have been designed and are in some stage of the testing for later manufacturing process will appear in the next few years. Engine design precedes manufacturing and sale by quite some time.
It is worthwhile to recall that worldwide manufacturers such as Hyundai make and sell cars and trucks used all over the world including places where easy access to level two or above charging is impossible. Some places where electricity itself is unavailable and petroleum vehicles will have a long life. As a neighbor calls them "those Toyota jihad trucks". It is hard to find a mechanic today who is competent to work on classic vehicles with 1930's-1950's mechanical operations. That is how I see petroleum engines in the future. A steady dwindling of uses and vehicles. They will outlast me.
