  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai and Kia have filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a high-compression, twin-supercharged four-cylinder engine.

The patent, which was first filed on June 19th, 2017 and published this week, is for an engine “including one or more cylinders for generating a driving torque, a plurality of intake lines for supplying external air to one or more cylinders and one or more electric superchargers disposed on, or in, the plurality of intake lines.”

Already know that the 2.0L Theta II will be replaced by a new Theta III 2.5L, which will provided 300+ HP in boosted form for RWD application (presumably via a twin-scroll turbo set-up), but is this patent filing comes to pass, then should see even more of an increase in power and efficiency down the road.

Doesn't sound like a Genesis engine to me although Acura is putting a 4 in the '19 RDX's.

^ If this make it to production, being a more performance-oriented engine, would definitely see its way into Genesis models.

The boosted version of the new 2.5 Theta III is already slated to be the base engine of the next gen G80 (no indication that it wouldn't be bound for the NA market) and certainly would replace the current turbo-4 in the G70, as well as finding its way into the GV70 and GV60 CUVs.

And there's a good chance that the 2.5L mill will also finds its way into the something like the GV80, even if only in conjunction w a 48V/mild hybrid system.

Well, I don't want no stinkin' 4 cylinder banger in any future G80 size ride I would buy. However, I can see one in a lighter G70 ride.

^ Agreed, but most of the competition offer turbo-4s as their base engine in their mid-sizers and 300+HP (more w/ the mild hybrid system) is enough for many buyers.
