  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

During a recent powertrain briefing, Hyundai revealed some more details about its new 5.0-liter Tau V8 and 1.0-liter Kappa three-cylinder engines that will be used in a variety of global markets in the near future.

Slated for use in the Genesis sedan as well as the larger Equus, Hyundai's new V8 will use direct injection to produce 429 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. That's a healthy increase of 59 horsepower and 8 ft-lbs of torque over the 4.6-liter V8 it's replacing, while also increasing fuel economy by one mile per gallon to 18/26 thanks to an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai has not mentioned any plans to offer the new Tau 5.0 in any other products, though we'd love to see it shoehorned under the hood of a Genesis Coupe. (Full disclosure: We really want to see a 5.0 battle between the Genesis Coupe and Mustang GT.)

On a much smaller level of displacement, Hyundai also detailed a new 1.0-liter Kappa inline three-cylinder engine that will be offered in other markets in the new i10 subcompact. Currently, this engine produces 69 horsepower and returns around 55 miles per gallon on the United States testing cycle. And while this 1.0-liter engine currently isn't slated for consumption here in the States, future versions of the Kappa engine could come to our shores. Hyundai says that we'll see a turbocharged, 110-hp version of the 1.0-liter three in 2012, and that a turbocharged 1.2-liter Kappa will be released shortly thereafter. The 1.2T is estimated to produce around 130 to 140 hp, making it more suitable for American-sized vehicles.

I wonder what the 0-60 time is going to be on the new Genesis with this 5.0 in it.. I bet around 4.8 seconds...

unless traction is greatly improved I don't see how... You can't have a hard launch in the current 4.6 due to traction issues.. and nanny control

I am wondering how wide a tire they might go to ....

Stopped in at my dealer to test drive a 2011. He mentioned that the new motor was gonna be in the 2013 Genny. Anyone heard definative news...2012 or 2013?

Dealers are usually the last ones to know. I'd take his/her words with a grain of salt. They don't read forums or blogs.
:)
There are pics of refreshed Genesis already. New engine normally comes with refresh. and pics of refreshed vehicles dont come out 2 years early, they are usually spotted a few months before launch.

Impressive, but I do hope to be happy with my current 2010 Genesis for several more years.

He is most likely just trying to prevent somebody wanting to wait for the 12', and skip the 11' you were driving.

Well... hopefully this is an indication of what the US-version of the 2012 Genesis will look like: http://genesisowners.org/hyundai-genesis-sedan-articles/27621-2011-hyundai-genesis-facelift-revealed.html

Cross your fingers, folks!

Not sure why the link I posted isn't working... but here are the pics of the SUPPOSED facelifted 2012 Genny:

I really do not understand the obsession for more horse power. The 4.0 385 horse power that the Genesis has now seem like more than enough
for me. The only people who really benefit from the extra horse power are the insurance companies, gasoline companies and the police departments. I like
the six speed transmission, had an eight speed in a Lexus LS460 and was not all that impressed they too claimed better gas milage but allot of people
were not happy with how the engine performed so a TSB to correct the problem later decreased the gas milage.
I think the Genesis would be better served with a solution to the Tilt Wheel issue, better matched tires, seat height adjustment passenger side and better Nav update. The Genesis is a nice looking car the way it is, I would not make any drastic changes to it.

has anyone read or heard about when the 5.0 will make it to the Equus or Genesis? My Genesis lease is coming up in April and I am planning to get the Equus but want to wait for the new engine.

Any info is appreciated.

At the Philly Auto Show yesterday, I was told the Genesis would get the 5.0 engine this fall.

Just drove an Equus Ultimate. While the materials are a significant upgrade over my Genesis, the overall impression I left with was that there wasn't a discernible difference between the two. Very disappointed that there have been negligible improvements made with the technology. The navigation appears to be the same generation as my 2009. No improvement in the selection of voice commands. In addition, the ultimate back seat was not useful for a 6' tall person and in the upright position, the footrest pushed up against my calf and was uncomfortable. My overall takeaway was that the car is basically a Genesis in a Saville Road suit.

I really wanted to love it more than I did.

Now the dealer experience was abysmal at best! I walk in dressed in a suit from work with an appointment and I was met by a bunch of salespeople lined up waiting for their "up". When I told one of the mens that I was here to see the Equus, he literally yelled across the dealership. The dealers will have to figure the service component of selling and servicing an Equus customer.
