  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any word or update on when the Genesis sedan will be on the show room floor (either V-6 or V-8)?

I have resorted to the pathetic daily ritual of typing "Hyndai Genesis Sedan" into Google to see if anything new has posted in the last 24 hours - but it is WAY too quiet for the past week!

Last I heard was June for the V-6 and August for the V-8; has that changed?

Unfortunately, I know that our great source of information - the dealership who will remain nameless but can be found on this forum - has been silenced by "The Man" at Hyundai (as in "The Man trying to keep us down").

Hi Viking.. I hear ya on "the man". Too bad.. It was nice getting all those updates - frequently.. Otherwise, nothing has changed that I've heard - besides the Possibility that the V8 may be delayed past August....

Which one are you more interested in? June is right around the corner - so at least the 300hp v6 will be here very soon..

Depending on where final pricing nets out, I want to go with the V-8 - but probably not the "Technology Package" (if it really comes in at the leaked $39.5 - $41.0k range). If that pricing holds then I would go with the 4.6L Standard Package at $35.5 - $37.0.

The extra power on the V-8 would be fantastic but the other drivers for me going with the V-8 over the V-6 would be (A) the "Premium Leather" listed on the V-8 Standard Package and (B) The Z-F Transmission - which will only be in the V-8 if I am reading it correctly and (C) Wood-trimmed steering wheel.

If I don't go V-8 then I would go with the 3.8L Premium Package with 18" wheels for $33.0 - 34.5k. Bottom line is that I won't spend more than $38k on any Genesis vehicle in its first year and the decision between those two packages will come down to whether the Premium Leather, V-8 and ZF tranny are worth the $2,500 difference. I am looking to do a 3 year lease but will consider buying one at the end - after any bugs are worked out.

For reference purposes I am not someone who would otherwise shop a large luxury sedan because I am unwilling to fork out that kind of cash for something that depreciates so much. If the Genesis were not coming out then I would go with either an Infinity G35 or loaded Avalon Limited. I feel like I might be the exact type of person that Hyundai is targeting since I believe that most Lexus or BMW customers would not probably buy a Hyundai right now.

The G35 is a little too small though (we have three kids), and the Avalon is a little "old-person-ish" - but I do like the size, quickness and fuel economy of the Avalon.

Either way I have to have a car decision made by 8.17.08 when I lose my company car – so if the V-8 is not on the show room floor by then I will be bummed!

Rumor has it that, the V6 will start shipping from Korea on June, so we can expect them to hit the dealerships sometime in Mid June to Late June, and either late August to mid September for the V-8.

Btw, what happened to EdVoylesHyundai? Did he get banned by the Hyundai itself to post here or something? Hmmm.

I hope the v8 gets here early then, Viking.. Unlikely, however...

EdVoylesHyundai isn't banned - but he hasn't been around...

I am still here, I am just reading most of the new info at the same time the rest of you are and I haven't had much to post. I have been reading most days, though. I saw the test on Edmunds this morning, but by the time I finished my morning checklist, I saw that it was already posted here. So, I am mostly just wiating to see drive the car. As soon as I get behind the wheel or find out when we will have one here for customers to look at, I will let you all know what I think, but I will be sure to preface any posts with * "I am not an expert" and * "this post is only my opinion and I am in no way claiming to have some intimate knowledge of this product that is not possible for Joe Schmoe on the street to have" or something like that.

The things that most interest me right now are the suspension tuning, the exhaust note and the fact that the 4.6 does not use DI on this first generation. DI can net huge gains in efficiency and power and I think* that they will move to this technology in this engine as a way to add power in the coming years. Edmunds said the exhaust note is subdued in the cabin but throaty outside, which is "perfect" in my opinion*. Quiet with the windows up, but throaty after work in the twisties. Also, Edmunds didn't seem to think the thing handled terribly, even though Hyundai has publicly stated that the suspension tuning for the USDM models will be firmer than the KDM models, which Edmunds tested. My hope* is for a bit firmer, more nimble tuning that would allow it to make use of the 5-link suspension setups and hang with a 550i around a road course.

I just found out from my dealer in new York that the Hyundai genesis sedan will be delivered to his dealer ship the last two weeks of June, Also Hyundai might delay there shipment even longer because of the flaw in the adaptive cruise control laser, Hyundai has and issues adjusting its cruise control laser when a car enters the Front line of vision, and can't compensate for the distance in between the two cars, also the cold air climate for the passengers seat was removed do to cost v.s. befit analysis, the drivers seat still has an option for the cool seat option, meanwhile the passenger only has heated seat,

they are not shipping the v-8 anytime soon in 2009 there will be a test trial with 30,000 Hyundai genesis manufactured and shipped to the u.s. for a cost of $80,000,000,000 million dollars including manufacturing cost and facility, i have a feeling this is all Hyundai's money and this is there breaking point in the market if this genesis doesn't pick up they will lose the market in the U.S. its like poker they are putting all there chips in.

We have not seen any pricing on the Genesis (other than what must be a mistake in the Edmunds review) since the Autospies pricing - that was also posted on this forum. I wonder if the "Premium Leather" listed on the 4.6L will also be an upgrade/option in the V-6 trim?

I gave my dealer 36,000 cash for my black on black genesis we have a contract written out because he has not received the Vin numbers yet, I will Be getting the 3.8l v6 290 horse power heights package available.

"Power Heights" package; Is that the same as the "Technology Package"? Did he have specific pricing by package level?

If the reviewers are correct I think I would be unpleased with the handling for the price point. I have always thought that the GS460 and M45 were the benchmarks for this car so to have it come right in the middle is not a suprise. I have test driven both the GS460 and the M45(M35) and agree with the reviewers impressions of those two cars. The Lexus is too soft and the M45 is firmer but harsher without the athlectiscism of the German sedans.

The pricing compared to the 2 of these cars is also interesting. At the v8 level it gets a little more competitive. The M45 with the technology package sells on the street for about $50,750, the base model at $46,500 and the v6 M35 for $41,000. The Lexus comes in at about $49,000 for the base v6 all the way up to $55,000 when comparably equiped to the Genesis. The v8 Lexus has the hybrid power train so it is not really an equitable comparison. If we consider that the Lexus LS350, Infinit G35, Mercedes C and BMW 3 Series all sell at $31,000-$40,000 and feature "6 cylinder sport luxury" the water gets even muddier. Remember the average car buyer is not poring over specs or even understands them.

Again, I think that the Hyundai dealers better be ready to sell these models at a decent discount. Once the magazines start talking about M45s and GS460s people will start price shoping at those other dealerships. We are back to the classic question of what the brand name is worth. With only $5000 or so difference in price most people will just leave the Hyundai dealer. The Hyundai dealers better be carefull that they do not become the best marketing vehicle that Infinit or Lexus has ever devised. I can see the newspaper ads now...

...

I see what you are saying but one thing missing here is size. At least to me, the larger size of the Genesis is a big selling point over the G35, etc -- espeically the front and rear leg room. Love the Infinity but don't like the cramped back seat...
