So I originally went to buy a black with tan and for whatever reason I ended up with a white on tan and am feeling buyers remorse. I really wish I had gone with the black. I guess I was thinking for all the driving I do over 4,000 miles a month the white would hold up better but I really don't think I like it. Maybe tomorrow I will. If not maybe the dealer will exchange it for me being it was a demo with 2,000 miles on it.

What are your thoughts on the white?

Had a black car once. It looked great in the carport after a wash and wax. Otherwise after a day or two on the road it looked like crap. Black is very high maintenance, shows scratches, rock dings, and is too hot in the summer. Our white Genny replaced a white Acura which replaced a white Mazda 929(see the pattern). After wash and wax I use a detailer and the white looks fantastic even after 42,000 miles. The white is not just plain white, it has a lot of metallic in it. We get complements every week on the color alone.

As a Florida resident, in order from most to least effort to keep clean exterior colors, IMHO:
  • Black
  • White
  • Dark Blue/Gray/Green/Burgundy
  • Red/Yellow
  • Silver
  • Beige/Gold

Metallic colors tend to hide dirt/water spots much better than solids. My previous 2 cars were beige metallic Accords, and I think I might have washed them once or twice a year in the dry season, and never in the wet when it rains nearly every day.

For interiors in FL, it seems that darker is better (black = easiest to keep clean, white/cashmere = hardest), but I don't spent a lot of time at the beach. Having lived a few years in NY & MA, I would say that trying to keep carpeted black floor mats clean in the winter would be futile ... I would certainly switch out the carpet for rubber. I would opt for a medium/dark grey interior rather than black.

100% agree. I have the white with saddle interior and love it. I've had 2 black cars in the past, and will never do that again.

Not to mention that even at a moderate latitude (just south of San Francisco, CA in the study below), the average paint temperature on a sunny day for a black car can be over 50 degrees hotter than on a white car, and over 35 degrees hotter than silver.

For interior temps (assuming the same exterior color is used), there is less than 5 degrees difference in temperature of various interior colors (partly because even light interiors have dark areas on the dash and near windows to avoid reflections):

Thanks for all the replies....now that I see it in the sun this morning I do like it....white is a nice change and looks fresh....especially once I have a light window tint done...

Ps my wife has a 2006 Mercedes ml500 in black and has been a pain in the ass since new to keep clean and now with 50k miles on it the paint definitely shows the swirls and imperfections...

I'm excited about the new car...

Living in Minnesota, keeping any floor mat clean in the winter is futile. But, when spring comes, you are much better off having Black Carpet than a lighter color. The lighter colors show stains. The black hides the stains.

I always try for a black interior

Carpet color showing dirt and stains kind of depends on where you live. Here in GA we have little black dirt, mostly red clay and light sandy soils so black/dark carpet gets looking dirty quickly. That is why I use tan all weather floor mats.

i was going for a silver with the odd tan interior ended up with black on black - w/btw i am very happy with. the brown leather dash swoop always bothered me. I think though the silver is the most attractive color on the genny bc of all the bright trim, seems to blend better..

if you wanted spice things up you could always have a painter throw some transparent color on over the white........

I really wanted a white r spec but they don't offer it in the USA. I ended up with black on black r spec. No regrets at all but it is a high maintenance color.

I agree that a black Genesis is a sweat looking automobile. I just moved up from a almost black (very, very dark blue metallic) Sonata and I unfortunately gave up and grew accustomed to how the car looked dirty. It looked great when clean but spring pollen and every other bit of dirt really showed. My new Genesis is silver. I am sure you will grow to love your car in white. I saw one at the dealership and it looked very $exy.

white's a PITA. my friend ALWAYS buys white and his vehicles look as dirty, if not more so, than my previous black ones..

i've owned three black vehicles (new) and will never do it again. NEVER... i am way to anal to own something like a black vehicle. i just traded the Genesis in for a Dk Charcoal Pearlcoat Durango which resembles black in low light conditions but hides those "fine" scratches and swirls that drove me nuts. If i had to buy a Genesis over again it would be that darker gray color (like pewter??). get 90% of the black look without the hassle.

funny, before the Genesis, i had a '10 Yukon Denali which was Storm gray Met. and i loved it. Hyundai's "dark" gray just wasn't dark enough for me when i was there, but i should've purchased it.

Best of luck with getting out of it if you do. chances are if you're having remorse like that so quick, it won't grow on you. i hope it works out man.

I'm convinced you are less likely to get a ticket in a white car.

Same here. Amazing car

I agree. I'll NEVER buy a black car again. I've had two black cars in my lifetime (I'm old <grin>), a 1973 Pontiac GrandAm and a 2003 Mercury Marauder. NEVER NEVER AGAIN. Shows every speck of dirt. Every tiny scratch. You are cleaning all the time. He is much better off with white. The best colors to hide dirt and scratches are silver or tan, but white is so much better than black.

Well, geez...somebody's gotta chime in in defense of black cars. Ironically, the two Genesis' I've owned are my FIRST black cars, which I actively avoided in the past due to my fear of the aforementioned hassles of keeping them clean. But since I bought one of the first Genesis to hit US shores (8/2/08) -- and color options were VERY limited at the time -- I ended up "settling" for black/black in my haste to part company with an out-of-warranty BMW.

And I must say, it hasn't been nearly as much of a pain to keep my black car(s) clean as I anticipated, and mine's a daily driver, even through MN winters (a state that's notorious for the liberal application of road salt). Not only do I think my car looks great right after a wash, I'm finding it not-at-all hard to look at several days later.

Besides, you know what they say...once you go black, you never go back!

After a long hiatus from black cars, I went back to black for my 12 Genesis. I have owned those 2 of those dark metallic grays, but frankly they have no shine to them. The look the same dirty as clean. Black at least looks sharp when clean. I have noticed that the black paint quality on the Genesis is the best black paint I've ever had in terms of scratch/swirl resistance.
Silver by far the best in not showing swirls, no wonder is the most popular color. White, meh, tends to get a yellowish hue after a couple of years.

Also because the it helps keep the car much cooler than a dark color.
