  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I can’t believe I switched to Acura.

It IS nuts out there... Carvana will buy my 2015, 98K mi. 5.0 Ultimate today for $20K... I paid $22K for it 3 yrs ago w/ 62K miles on it!

As someone who have owned a 2015 TLX V6 AWD, I hear you the 9 speed is just horrible and even dangerous at times when it gets confused and stalls the car when you need it most to move. On tech front the Acura did have a few things better (Built in remote starter, Climate control linked seat heating and cooling + Heater steering wheel and the Tire fill assist) but overall the Genesis is a definitely a class above
I must admit I did appreciate some of the “common sense” tech items like the remote start and climate memory. I was super disappointed with the car after a few months of ownership. Honda did update the software and changed the fluid which did improve the shifts for a bit but went back to its old habits after a few hundred miles. I had to do the old reset where you hold down the gas pedal with the ignition on to smooth it out. Did your 3.5 seem underpowered? I had to wind out the first several gears just to keep up with stop and go traffic. It scooted after 4000rpms but I feel I shouldn’t have to wind a 300hp V6 to get going.

Mine was AWD(Standard in Canada) after 4th gear it scooted like crazy, it was very light on its feet and handled really well, was definitely more sporty/light on its feet than my Ultimate 5.0( Dont get me wrong the Genesis pulls harder but you can feel its weight). I think the SH-AWD makes a big difference, yours being FWD probably didn't feel the same, have heard from some other folks with FWD the same. But I could never get a comfortable seating posture and the gearbox was just too unpredictable and annoying, when it shifted from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th there was a jerk which I could feel in my lower back and that's why in stop and go(combined with that auto start/stop) it was a pain literally and figuratively. Speaking of that Auto start/stop I don't think I have ever stalled any car but with TLX it was a different story, the stalls happened and they were damn scary as they would happen while taking a U turn or taking a right turn after a stop.

I did do the transmission resets atleast 2 times in my one year of ownership but it would only stay good for few days before going back to being jerky.

Funny, I used to do the "reset" for my old 05 TL's 5sp auto every 6 months - I still miss that car... the end of "Peak Acura". Might still have it as a 2nd, if it hadn't met an untimely demise.

Wonder if the same "reset" could be done for the Genesis transmission....?

Honda lost its way post the 2nd Gen MDX and similar gen TL. Now they make cars which don't excel in anything just do everything a little bit better than Honda. Also the disconnect between Honda and Acura is so huge its not funny. Thats for another day I guess lol

I have heard the same things about the SH-AWD that it was a different driving experience. I never had the start stop feature on mine but I’ve heard horror stories about those. Also with the vcm and way over aggressive traction control. It would limit power and chug when taking corners at normal speeds. The zf9 tried to do too much in a too small of package and used dog clutches. Cool design but not practical. If the tlx would start in 2nd gear and have smoother shifting I would have been more happy with it. They did this with the pilot later on. The genesis does feel heavier but I have read about a pedal commander which really wakes up the car. I’m in WI so I am constantly in eco mode due to slippery conditions, snow mode is a pain. Is your 5.0 AWD? Wasn’t offered down in the states I believe. Wonder if that has anything to do with the heaviness of the car?

Wow, that's great to know. If I lose my job it's nice to know I can get $20K for a car I bought almost 3 years ago for $22K.

Carvana pretty much takes your word for it too. If it drives on the flat bed your good to go pretty much.

Yep - it's seriously weird... But what would I replace it with? I thought maybe "upgrading" to a 2018+ G80 5.0 (lower miles, CarPlay & 360 camera) - but those are going for stupid money now, at least $35K. They were high $20's max a year ago.

Yes mine is AWD and even then its a little scary with all seasons, will get winter tires before next season for sure. I find very minimal difference between Eco and Normal and Yes Snow just slows down cars reaction time so I am mostly in eco too. I have only tried sport maybe twice that too for a short sprint, the gearing gets aggressive in sports, just need better throttle response in Normal so will read about the Pedal Commander and see if that makes a difference as for regular driving I am fine with the gear shifts in normal.

As for heavy, I think if PC fixes throttle response then its perfect as it has a very settled ride due to its weight.

Read an article about that the other day... About some guy selling a 3yr old manual transmission Honda Fit to them for MORE than he paid for it NEW! The article said that they go by algorithms in determining value...

This is the exact same car I have, except mine is white and has only 13,000 miles. I paid $37,500 for it, brand new.

Crazy... they're asking almost a $1 per miles driven!

Those are the only available 2019 g80s near me…none. The second these cars list, they are gone. Regardless of the year and price it seems.

Those are Sport or have the Sport package, which does increase the price a bit. Mine (and the one in the pic) are the base G80.

But yeah..

Carvana will give me $13k for my 2012 genesis 3.8 sedan with 84K. I have been shopping and no one comes close online or otherwise. Carvana has a 16 genesis 3.8 awd with 24k miles that has been sitting there for a while for $32k. I almost did it but the connected services issue, lack of integrated phone features, and that it is already 6 years old bugged me for that price. Nothing wrong with my car but I get a little nervous with cars over 10 years old with no warranty coverage.

I have never had a vehicle that had a connected services feature and the only thing I am missing so far is the remote start on the key fob. The other features are meh and isn’t a deal breaker for me. I was under the impression CarPlay and android auto can be installed on these vehicles. Not sure the process or success rate tho. Anybody know if there is a huge difference in the 333hp 3.8 in 2012 and the 311hp in the 2015+ as far as drivability? I wanted to test drive one just for giggles but there are none on the lots around here.

Since the list of features in Connected Services is actually pretty long, and free for the first 3 years, I've tried to become familiar with them all and try to use them to test the value of each. After all, if my CS remains active, I at least need to justify the high expense of renewing the services.

I'm planning on creating a list of all the features my base G80 has, that I would lose in Dec 2022 if my car has 3G. I think I'll be okay, but the poor way Genesis is handling it has me concerned. They could at least send a letter.

The 2G/3G issue is an industry wide problem. Some manufactures handled it better than others. GM probably among the best because they have been using 4G since 2015 model years. Which has you really wonder how brands like Toyota/Lexus and Hyundai, particularly Genesis failed to plan for this. But many foreign brands really blew it in this area. Honda has a fix that is free if you act by the end of February otherwise you can still get the hardware update for cost of almost $900.

Most major car companies are facing this issue. I would hope there would be a solution but it may not be as simple as a software update or simple 4g/lte hardware upgrade.
