  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I confess... I am a bit of a (car) stalker...

I am with my family on vacation in her hometown, a little town on Lake Erie in Western New York. We drove up from Texas in the family hauler (Ford Expedition) so that's our "get around" vehicle. On the route here as well as since I've been here, I haven't seen any G70s (or Stingers, for that matter). I have seen a couple of Genesis sedans/G80s. What sucks is how much I miss my car and wish I had it on some of these rural back roads. Ah well another week isn't so bad... or is it?

I actually don't have any photos of my car, so I've been staring at this identical one from some Stinger owner's Cars & Coffee photos; that's how much I miss my ride.

A week? I don't know how you can stand it! I wouldn't be able to sleep at night...

<J/K> :grinlaugh:

There are quite a few Stinger drivers in Phoenix but very few G70s. Yet when I see any Stingers on the road, they don't really acknowledge me at the moment. Maybe it doesn't matter, but I feel that they aren't aware the cars share the same platform.
I see more G70s here in Gilbert and The East Valley than I do Stingers. my buddy has a G70 also he's in Peoria

Yep, same thing happened to me Today. I saw a Stinger on the highway, pulled beside him and gave a honk and thumbs up. He looked over briefly, returned the thumbs up and looked away. I'm not sure if he had some sort of superiority complex thinking I was a Stinger fan boy or something!? Judging from the amount of time he looked over, I don't know if he even registered what kinda car I was driving...

A lot of people don't. I've got the G80, pulled up to one two weeks ago and gave them the thumbs up. They looked at me like I was crazy. Mine's white, his was black.

On the other hand, a few months ago a car was behind me honking, I was getting annoyed - then the car pulled up next to me - it was a white G80 like mine - they rolled down the window (husband-wife) and we quickly exchanged how much we liked our cars.

Speaking of sitings.....

First, let me say I live in a small town in SE Ohio. I'm sure have the only G70 and have probably seen two, maybe three, G80s (after all, they've been out much longer). I've seen one Stinger a year or so ago. However, there are tons of KIAs. I mean, tons. You can't throw a rock without hitting one, not that I would do that. :giggle:

All right, now that I've set the stage....I was at a local nursery a few days ago picking up some flowers. While walking back to the car I noticed a Kia parked next to me, but didn't pay it any mind. "Oh, gee, look another Kia," I thought. As I was putting the flowers in the trunk the driver got out and said he had to stop and compliment my car and mentioned he had the sibling. It was then that I realized he had a Stinger! And he was only a few feet from me! I really need to be more aware of my surroundings.

He went on and on about my car and I went on and on about his. It was pretty neat, to say the least.

First post! Been a silent member on here since I purchased my G70 3.3t Sport a few months back..
Have had other genesis owners both g70 and g80 owners come up to me to talk about the car in random parking lots..
The other day, a white 2.2 sport parked beside me at a local mall, the Shops of Don Mills.
There definitely seems to be a small but passionate community of Genesis owners in the Greater Toronto Area which is nice to see...

I can’t believe I haven’t seen this thread. I relate 100%!! I always stalk cars.

Once, I purposely parked my red Focus ST next to a white ST. When I got back and their ST was gone I imagined how excited they had to be to see mine. All because I would have been if it were reversed? 🤷🏼‍♂️ Focus ST owners, especially when they first came out, loved seeing and acknowledging each other. We’d flash lights and wave. Once, traveling 465 in Indianapolis, a black ST started to pass me but slowed down and motioned me to roll down my window. Hanging out his window he screamed, “I. Love. This. Car! Best. Car. Ever!” Before speeding off. I loved that kind of crap.

I have a thing for station wagons so my next car, due to my long commute, was a manual VW Golf Sportwagen TDI. I once had a guy come up to me all “What the eff are you doing?”as I walked around his identical TDI. He got it when I pointed out mine on the other side of the parking lot. TDI owners also tend to notice each other and wave or nod.

Like most of you I’m excited to have my G70 so on the few occasions I’ve seen another one I try to get their attention. Not once has a fellow G70 owner acknowledged my weird advances. The same for Kia Stingers. It kinda stinks.

Funny/interesting anecdote, I kept the TDI Sportwagen when I leased my G70. I try to drive it once or twice a week. When I’m in my G70 I swear I see plenty of other TDI owners and can’t do anything about it. The other day, a few miles from home, I see an identical G70 in Mallorca Blue, same 12 spoke wheels and all. I wave and point. She notices me with a weird look on her face. After all, I’m in my TDI that day.

Last car stalker thing I do.... I remember a lot of people by what they drive. Especially coworkers. I used to work in a large office complex and when I’d see a coworker get out of their car I’d often mentally note it. For no good reason.

What a ridiculously long post. My apologies. I blame Dr. Jack Daniels. He’s been my therapist since March. 🤦🏼‍♂️
