  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

hi Guys

i was brwosing the net looking to see some gen fan , till i sow this forum , actuly the members are so gently , proffisional , respected , ,,,,

my stroy is ,

i am driving lexus GS300 since 2000, 1st i had 2000 it was great , then i had new one 2006, ,,,, i was so disappointed from this new one , so harsh , not comfortable at all , my kids never liked it , my wife as well , ,,,

i sold it last year , i got KIA Amanti , and was way better , smoth ride , big room

actuly buying the Amanti was just a trail ballon to Korian cars , ,,and i liked them ...

now i am thinking of Gen. till i read here is this forum that it is more like a Sport car , that bring me back the bad memo of My GS:confused:,,,,

is it like the Amanti smoothenss , or more like GS .... and what about the ES350...

your feedback please

If you think the GS ride is too firm, I would not recommend the Genesis. Maybe the 2011 Genesis model will offer an adjustable suspension that would change things (but I have no info on that). The soon to be available Equus would be fine, but it is going to cost $10 - 15K more than the most expensive Genesis (out the door price).

You probably would like the ES350, but that is smaller car than the Genesis.

Well, as someone who owned a 2006 GS430, I never found the ride of the Genesis to be an issue. It's definitely no worse overall than the current GS IMO (honestly, I *never* understood why people praised the GS's ride quality...it was merely average). If you're looking for something super cushy and comfortable I'd look elsewhere. Maybe a new Taurus, Lacrosse, ES or even Nissan Maxima (w/out the sport package). The ES and Amanti are going to be much smoother/softer riding than the Genesis.

With that said, here are a list of areas I feel the Genesis trumps the GS:

-Rear seat comfort and room (huge difference)
-Headroom (I no longer have to duck at stoplights to see the light)
-Cargo room/access (the GS's ridiculously small trunk opening always bugged me)
-Structural rigidity/sense of solidity (doesn't rattle, crack, and pop like my GS did)
-Steering and braking feel (doesn't feel artificial like the Lexus)
-Value (duh!)

Ride is about even. Feature content is about even. Acceleration is about even (6 seconds 0-60). I find the Genesis slightly quieter at speed. Honestly though, drive one and report your feedback. I have an early-build '09...some people find the '10 to ride noticeably smoother over broken pavement. Ditching the Duncrap tires supposedly helps quite a bit as well. Good luck! :)

We could describe the ride on a hundred messages, but you, your wife and kids need to get in a Genesis and drive it to make your own decisions.

I would describe the ride as firm but not harsh.

You also might want to test drive an Azera which I think has a somewhat softer ride.

The ride of the Genesis is between the GS and the Amanti, but definitely closer to the GS.
Like many others, the GS was stiffer than I thought and for some reason, didn't feel like the bumps were well damped.
You should test drive a Genesis and see for yourself. You might not like it but it was very smooth and better than the GS for me.
Good luck.

Dan

Good suggestion on the Azera. I found the Azera to have more of a soft, traditional luxury car ride. Plus, the 2011 model has been refreshed and you get nifty power folding mirrors on the Azera (something I happen to miss from my GS and can't understand why it doesn't come on the Genesis). The seats are also a bit more cushy than the Genesis.

I had an Azera for 4 years - it's ride is a little softer. I much prefer the handling, and especially the steering, of the Genesis. A world of difference between FWD and RWD. That said, I would still not hesitate to recommend the Azera - I thought it was a very good car. Even so, if the Genesis had existed when I bought the Azera I would have chosen the Genesis instead, regardless of the price difference.

I have just moved from the Amanti, which I loved to a Genesis 3.8 Premium. While the ride on the Genesis is firm and I knew it would take some time to get used to, it it is far and away a much better car than the Amanti. The Amanti ride is bouncy, much softer than a Buick and has loose handling. You must test drive the Genesis more than once to make a decision. I have not regretted the switch.

If the GS was too firm a ride, the Genesis will most likely also be unsatisfactory to you. I agree with the suggestion to look at the Azera, which is Hyundai's version of the Toyota Avalon. You might also consider the new Sonata.

If the Sonata style is not to your liking, another choice, coming up soon is Kia's version of the same, the 2011 Kia Optima.

What kind of car is that?
Where did you get the picture from? That is NOT a Sonata.
It has a much longer wheel base and the short front overhang suggests that it's a RWD platform.
I do see the distinct Sonata chracter line and DLO, but with Genesis 17" wheels, side mirrors, exhaust outlets, and tail lamps.
It appears to be a photochop or a prototype model.
Either way, looks good!

Woops, right. That is an early prototype/show car. You can find various pictures of it when using Google images for 2011 Sonata. I like the more Genesis look of it. I'm not enamored by the front grill of the new Sonata, but love the character line and back.

Here is another pic referenced as the 2011 Sonata. Much prefer this grill to the actual.

Here is the actual released car.

I think I am with the others here. If you don't like the ride in your GS the Genesis may not fit the bill.

I came from an 06 Avalon and am not satisfied with the ride in my 09 Genesis. The Avalon soaks up minor imperfections and just floats across everything. This is at the expense of handling of course.

Go drive a Genesis on the roads you use on a daily basis and compare. If you like the ride, there really aren't too many negatives about the Genesis.
The interior, Lexicon audio, features, are all first rate.

If you want a nice plush car, with a softer ride, I'd look at the Azera or the new Buicks - they've typically had a buttery ride and the new Buicks are really nice inside and out. I found the GS a bit soft for my tastes and preferred the Infiniti, Genesis and BMW rides to it, if that gives you any bearing.

...
The OP said he did not like the ride on the GS and sold it, and is not considering another GS.

I realize that. I was just adding my $0.02 on how the 2 cars compare in other areas aside from ride quality. :)

But more on topic, I agree with the sentiments echoed by the rest of the forum. If ride comfort is of utmost priority, which based on his post it appears to be, he is probably best off looking elsewhere.

wooow, you are an awesome members :o

The new 2011 Avalon has just been released and it looks fairly nice. But if you don't need the extra size of the Avalon, then I would get the ES 350 which about the same price.

If you didn't like the ride quality of the GS, you need to go get the LS460.
That will work for you.

I think this question can be best answered at the Lexus/Toyota forum.
