  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I love the car, the nav is another story.
whenever I enter a street name for a destination, ex forest lane, it makes me scroll through a long list of potential choices of "forest", and i still do not find the right one, as it is sometimes in their database as "e forest", or east forest or god knows what (still can't find it)

my $100 garmin lets me input the # before the street name, and finds the right one each time.
does anyone have a solution to this. this navigation is not unusable the way it is

I agree it is not the most User-Friendly system and like you, the $100 Garmin I use when I'm travelling is far easier to set-up and use. My biggest frustration with the Genesis Nav is that you cannot enter a city before you enter a street name. Where is the logic in that!!

The only way around it is to use the voice command. Although you can enter state, then city, then street, it has it's own problems with voice recognition.

I'm probably in the minority - and I admit, I haven't used it much. But, when I bought the car, I did want the tech package but not for the navigation reason. Most in car navigation systems seem to be lacking and I fully expected to use my wonderful Google Navigator on my Androis phone.

But, I've found the Nav system to be quite good and I like how it mutes the sound system and also how it shows symbols in what's available at upcoming exits and how far to the rest areas on the highways. Cool stuff.

Now, I just need to read more forums and get the maps updated which seems to be another issue....

its very nice when you can actually find your destination

I wish I could turn off the NAV system as a default setting (so that it doesn't start up every time with the car). I drive the same, simple route in a small area most days . and would rather not have the NAV operating. Yes - I can turn it off each time, but it seems easy enough that it should be an option to have it stay off until called up.

We turn ours off. The first screen comes up but then goes to radio/cd/usb depending on what we had on last or if all was off by using the off/volume knob beside the cd slot then nothing comes on after the splash screen. I guess it depends on what your settings are.

Mine always defaults to NAV screen on start up (after nag screen). Doesn't matter what screen was up when I shut down car (with or without turning things off with the knob by the CD slot). And it always starts the AV system playing the USB stick (if its plugged in - but only shows the banner at top of screen showing track title/time).

Lately, I don't even push the DIS to accept the nag screen and drive to work with the nag screen showing the whole way. Of course, my USB is playing the whole time, too . . just can't see the file list.

I think mine is a fluke!

I agree. I seen that the Audi A8 included Google Earth in its Navigation package. That was a smart idea. It seems like the way to go forward for all car companies. So many benefits to it.

Yes i also hate the nav , love the car but can't stand the nav--- i just gave up on it !!!!! It would tell me to go the wrong way in and around nyc ....like taking a free bridge and not the toll tunnel but time wize that way could take 30-45 mins longer and no way to change it also does not see all streets in nyc ....i know it sounds crazy but it's true ..... Not broken for sure just a crappy nav system ............love the sounds !!! Also ipod does not work that well very ,very , slow to get to a name or song takes forever to go the list a horror .............just a note i found that if you leave the ipod in the car over night and it gets cold it does not work at all big pain in the you know what .................................
I think that the whole system needs to be re done they were on right track but someone made big boo,boo ... Just my 2 cents !

Double check all your nav settings and options. We have no problem in Atlanta. However, tall buildings can block the GPS satellite signals.

FYI, there is an update for the nav. I'm not sure what version you have, but my nav vastly improved upon getting the latest and greatest. Downside: it costs money.

I had never used a Nav system before buying the Genny two years ago, so I have nothing to compare it to. I usually just looked up addresses on Google Earth before starting out and everything worked fine. When I first started using the Genny Nav system it was bad, bad, bad. Guided me to the wrong place, had way out of date data and was difficult to use. I got the latest update and it is better, but I still don't like to use it because it is not intuitive. Entering a street name first just doesn't seem the most logical way to start. I think they need to go back to the drawing board and get some REAL programmers involved. (I was a software guy since 1967 and speak with some authority).

I find that the voice commands work best for me with the nav. Also if we want to go a particular way then we put in one or two waypoints.

My sympathy is with you. I have a Garmin in my work vehicle and it is pretty spot on. However it has been thrown out of the window a time or two.

I rarely use the NAV in my Genesis, I enjoy getting lost and exploring new territory. I work way too much so my time in the G is limited. Every moment I'm in the drivers seat is a special treat!
