  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just got off work, drive to the local convince store for a libation to help me get through Houston's drive home traffic and the questions begin.

What is that?
Its a Hyundai.
Oh, I thought it was a Mercedes-Benz or a BMW or something like that. I've never seen a car like that, it looks good.
Thanks man, I appreciate the compliment.

Let me just say it was so hard to stay humble when all I wanted to do was smile.

I can also say that other cars during stop and go traffic are staying in my blind spot longer than normal to eye rape this car...cool with me. :)

It's got 235 miles and 2 coats of Canuba Wax, I know it looks good.

I've had several people ask me if my Genesis was a Mercedes, especially looking at the front.

RonJ .... :)

Oh I can beat that! We were at a little country store in TN a few days ago and when I walked out to my car there was a lady standing next to it trying to figure out what kind of car it was. "Is that a Bently?" she asked. LOL.

It might keep you out of jail.

It sometimes takes me 45 minutes to travel 15 miles and a 16oz cold Budweiser helps ease the pain...without I feel like choking the shit out of someone.
I'm not going to get a DWI for drinking one damn beer.

Prosit!

OK, on with the oneupmanship: I pulled into a Hyundai dealership (service area) in Santa Fe, NM, and one of the salesmen came out to greet me and pointed out that they didn't work on Mercedes... I asked him if he had ever seen a Genesis: "of course!" he snorted.

Sorta makes you wonder....

I think somebody who can't wait 45 minutes for his first beer has "a problem." Then there is your state's open container law. But, hey, what do I know?

I got one for you guys. Was at the dealership a couple of weeks ago and they hand washed the car for me. In the receiveing section for the car adjacent to the lounge area, in comes this platinum 2012 R-spec detailed and cleaned. Everyone including me rushed to the glass windows to see the car. We stared and stated that is darn fine looking car. With everyone asking who does it belong to.

This question got answered, when the rep approached me and handed me the keys and stated you are all finished up and ready to go.

I think that says it all about the way these cars look. Damn fine engineering on the look factor.

I got the 2012 around the time it first came out and I was at the gas station when someone approached me and started video taping me and the car and he was doing a walk through about "this is the new genesis, etc".

Another time I was in a McDonald's drive thru getting a coffee and someone took my picture with the car. Made me feel like a celebrity haha. But yeah this car gets a lot of looks! Much more then my friends 2012 BMW 3 series.

I can't count how many times people thought this was a Bentley. But hey I'm not complaining :)

At least twice a week someone stops me when walking to the car and compliments it, sometimes it can be a inconvenience when you are in a rush to go to work.

I can only imagine when the 2015 comes out.

My wife and I were at a Volvo dealer's a while ago to look at a car for my wife. As we were walking from the showroom to the parking lot for a demo we walked past my Genesis and the salesman said, "Look - even Bentley drivers are looking at Volvo's!"

Most of the time I get people guessing Aston Martin, the wings look pretty close.

Just shows that many people (probably most) are clueless when it comes to shape/design.

Would never mistake the front end/grill of the Genesis for a Mercedes.

Otoh, the need a second or 2 to discern that on the basis of the side/greenhouse - that it isn't a BMW.

He guys. The strangest thing happend to me a couple of days ago. I was at the mall parking way out in the boonies to avoid door dings, and an officer pulls up along side and ask "do you know why I am pulling up along side of you?"

I stated because of where I am parking. He said no. I was wondering what type of car this is. He said it is a beautiful car and "I like the style."

This is one for the books with me. I have never had an officer pull up to my car without writing me a ticket for something.

Either way, we got to talking and he was surprised it was a Hyundai Genesis R-Sepc. He was blown away because it was a Hyundai. We got to talking more and I explained it has 429 horses, and ~367 at the wheel. I also told him I kept up with a Porsche Panemera effortlessly.

I get many compliments on this car; from men, and from the ladies especially.

Damn fine automobile, but Hyundai needs to work on the bloody oil consumption and most of all treat their Genny customers as-well-as Lexus treats theirs.

Thanks for sharing that experience.

Agreed on all points. Glad you had a nice non jack boot thug "law enforcement" experience like that. In today's times the cops do not show a human connection much anymore.

Years ago, I had a Sheriff deputy want to drag race me. Before cameras in cars. He pulled up, knew what I had, put a big smile on his face. We were doing about 55mph on the highway. He rolled down the window and yelled "I want to see that SD-455 run!" I knew he meant it, gave thumbs up.. He floored his Caprice, I let loose of the Super Duty and passed him like he was standing still. I think I let off about 1.3 century mark. I pulled off the exit to a gas station in case he wanted to talk. He did and bought me a soda.

This would not happen today. Too bad. I get sick and tired of the nanny state and busy body control freak geldings and pants wearing women ruining a liberty filled life.

On a side note. The Trans Am SD-455 to me is the most amazing Pontiac ever. While still extremely fast by today's standards, many affordable cars today are faster. 12.6 at 113 in quarter is not bad for a 3 speed auto. The Genny is faster when hammering down from a already rolling street speed 35+ on. Hard to beat that 8 speed combined with the 5.0.

^It would be a boring world without paranoia.

Hey troll slave.. Glad you are not paranoid. :) ignorance is bliss.
