If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have looked very closely at the 2012 sedan and found some items that i like better which are on the 2011(the year I own). I like the chrome inside door handles better than the silver on the 2012. i don't care for the exhaust in the rear bumper,it feels cheap, not solid like the 2011. I dont care for the aluminum look of the trim around the out side of the door windows, I like the chrome look of the 2011. I do like the new front headlights on the 2012. I also think I prefer the 2011 rocker panels, they seem to flow with the design better.

wow, you're very observant.
i hadn't noticed all those differences. i think to the casual onlooker, there aren't any significant cosmetic differences, aside from the rectangular exhaust tips.

As meticulous as some say that I am I guess the inside door handles and aluminum finish on the outside glass moldings really did not catch my eye. I had the same type exhaust on my 2007 Lexus LS460 and where the look took some getting use to, I did find cleaning them much easier than the old style. I do like the improved suspension, 8 speed transmission, DRL's, chimes, instrumentation (on the 4.6) and tail lights. I do not care so much for the white eye brow on the head lights.
I am waiting for a 4.6 to come in and than I am going to do a more extensive test drive and make a decision as to wether or not I will trade my 2010. I am also looking at changing my tail lights and modifyng my suspension with the 2012's.

I also have mixed feelings as the 2012. Let’s just say esthetically I don’t like the changes (Purely subjective). I particularly have trouble with the chrome trim in lower front it has a Mazda type smile and the headlights.

Talk about the things I do like;
1. GDI system (Really nice upgrade)
2. Power folding side mirrors.
3. New Tranny (Reliability still remains to be seen)

Alas things I would have liked to see:
1. AWD
2. Blind Spot Monitoring

i absolutely hate the 2012 tail lights. they are so plain and simple. too much red

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
If I were shopping today, the 2012 Genesis would not be on my short list.

In a car where the styling cues were obviously borrowed heavily from an array of luxury brands, the new Genesis styling seems to have strayed into a fog of confusion in this design cycle...

The tail lights look totally out of sync with the body lines. It looks like they were placed on the wrong car...

The headlights are simply unnecessary bling..no functionality and not even a real appearance enhancement...

The chrome grin around the lower front grill and sensor array is completely out of character with the elegant upper front grill....this is a big one for me, it just looks so wrong.

Exhaust tips...not my thing either

The GDI and it's associated extra ponies in the V6 might be nice, but not enough to offset to the confused styling...

You are all smoking crack. The 2012 is beautiful. As is the 2011.

OK - so I was exaggerating to make a point. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I think pre-2012 owners are biased toward their large investments as are 2012 owners. They are all beautiful cars.

Cheers

I love my 2010 Genesis but the 2012 Genesis is a gorgeous car. The Genesis, when introduced, looked like a Mercedes, BMW and Lexus LS 460 combined - so the new one just adds more external striking features. Add the engine configurations and this is one hot car. It's good that Hyundai didn't wait to do a facelift because competition is fierce and the Genesis is the target.

The only reason I took the leap to buy the Genesis is because I love the 2012 updates over the previous year models. When parked side-by-side to the pre-2012, it definitely seems a lot slicker. It's all subjective, 2009-2012, they are all beautiful cars.

I think exterior color makes a huge difference.

I looked at a white 2012 sedan and hated it. The lower body cladding and tail lights screwed it all up.

I saw a black 2012 sedan and loved it. And that's what I got.

Although, I admit I bought the 2012 because all new 2011s were sold out.

However, I'm an interior guy. I first consider the interior before the exterior because that's where I spend my time. Impressing the joker next to me in his E-class or 5-series means nothing; my car inside is quiet, attractive and (by the numbers) just as reliable as theirs. Which is just what I wanted.

Just need those snow tires ...

I'm with Newman on this - it's quite subjective but in my opinion the 2012 is a clear upgrade aesthetically.

It's funny that people mention the light strip "eyebrow" as something they dislike because it's one of the items I get the most favorable comments on - that and the rims (R-Spec).

I love the '12s and feel that it was an informed styling change that enhances the look of the car (and makes it more "Genesis" and less Lexus).

My $0.02.

Different opinions are always welcome here, even negative ones. Me, I luvs the '12 tail. I can't standz blacked out taillights.

I have always loved black cars...just hate keeping them clean!! But I went to a dealership at night and absolutely loved the pearl white on the Genesis. It has a sparkle and "rich" quality to it that makes it look even more luxurious. I also like the Cashmere interior for the detail it shows. You can see the dark recess of every nook and cranny of each hole and stitch in the leather contrasted against the light color of the cashmere. I just feel like you lose some of the detail that the interior provides with the all black interior.

If I were buying a sports car...Black on Black!!!

I like the 2012 better overall, but do not like how they integrated the exhaust. I also like the round fog lights found on the 2011 rather than the redesign on the 2012. In truth, I have loved the body shape in general since 2009. The fact that it's years later and the body remains relatively the same, is a testament to the good looks and timeless styling that this car has.

Amen brother! :D:D

I wonder if we'll ever look back at these cars as "classics"? And if so, which will be the more appealing buy in say, 30 years?

The original '09 in hard-to-find configurations... OR say a '12 R Spec?

Though I like the updated look of the '12s better... I can't argue that the '09-'11s are more timeless.

:)

While I'm not a big fan of the alunimum accent moulding on the Black R Spec, I think it fits in just fine on my Titanium Gray R Spec. :)

I'd much prefer the accent light in the head lights be the day time running lights. While it looks Ok at night with the headlights, I think it would look that much better as a daytime running light. The way it is now it looks just like any other older car with DRL.

as for the interior, I perfer the alunimum over chrome. It looks more refined to me.

The 2012 is imo a clear appearance upgrade to 2009.

Head lights/tail pipes, grille, wider mouth and more additional chrome in mouth. Better 18's wheels on the 3.8.

Many of these were all done to add a couple of their own design elements to a car that basically contained design elements from many other cars.

I think the tail lights are about the same, except the new one as not as immediately recognizable as being ripped off from another car. It looks way too much like BMW taillights and with that bangle butt you instantly think BMW.

Ever experience that feeling of a really beautiful car pulling up beside you. Edgy yet sleek! smooth yet if you listen closer you feel the vigor from the engine by way of the exhaust. That's the feeling ppl tell me they get when i pull up in my blue ext. cashmiere int. genesis w/ tech. The 2012 is beautiful and sleek. And I was planning to change out some parts on my car to the 2012.

2012 pros
front headlights gorgeous
rear lights gorgeous
better (bit softer) suspension

cons
front bumper with chrome trim (too flashy), almost like chrome rims on the equus. the car alone speak so loudly.
rear bumper is too wide at bottom, almost a bit too big for the car design/shape

Its not worth all the extra money! go with a 2011! why? well if you want to upgrade its always an option and you'd be spending considerably less. I didn't know id like my 2011 as much, until everybody's head turn everytime i ride through town. Its not a 2012! And its excellent to drive.

goodluck!

What? 2012 Genesis rear lamps ripped off from MB E class. Not that I have any problems with it.

I think it's maybe not as immediately recognizable as something derivative as the 2011's because in combo with the bangle butt, I couldn't stop thinking it was a BMW when looking at it.

Now it's kinda of remind me of the Sonota.
