  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This post will probably mean little to most readers but I felt compelled to offer it. I just put 3000 miles on my black/beige Genesis Ultimate. This vehicle was leased after owning 4 Caddys. On a trip from MI to IL (Interstate 80) I had some time to think about this car. As an old school guy pushing 60 I began to view this car as a Buick. Not in modern terms of course but as what Buick meant in the 50's 60's. Buick was the upscale US car that was stylish yet not ostentatious. It was known for power and build quality.
While not the "equal" of Cadillac in the marketplace it was respected almost as much and possibly even signaled more understated class than the Caddy.
Anyway I still am awed by the 'bang for the buck" this car offers. It is a great highway cruiser with good power (and AWD now),size, decent handling (in Sport), and wonderful quiet ride. Styling like Buick is clean and draws looks from those who have no clue what it is.
What I really appreciate is the straightforward design of controls. While I still could not figure out many of the Caddy features (CUE is a nightmare) the Genesis is for the most part intuitive. I like the buttons and knobs vs touch screen only. Little things have impressed such as the automatic time zone changes of electronic and mechanical clocks and the Genesis puddle lighting.
Anyway a great car so far. Happy 4th to everyone.

Happy 4th to you also. Good analogy.

I like that, and that is precisely why I was attracted to the Genesis: "upscale ... car that was stylish yet not ostentatious". I was drawn to Hyundai when I saw an Equus and was stunned on how hansom a car it was. When I found out it was a Hyundai, I knew they had jumped to the next level. I looked at the Genesis and I was hooked.

Agreed. I think you described what I love about the Genesis perfectly.

you nailed it. glad you enjoy the car as much as I love mine!

I agree. Given the complexity of the car, the controls are REALLY well designed. This is a major improvement from my 2010 Genesis. It's controls were designed by someone whose thought process was about 45 degrees from mine.

Interesting.... Bob Lutz, former GM honcho, stated in his Road and Track article this month, "Who's consistently at the top? Hyundai and Kia. Everything that company does is beautifully executed....
Makes reference to Peter Schreyer who was involved with designs for both. Went on to say of he owned a car company he would offer Peter whatever he wanted.

I looked at Caddy's and E Class Merc's for a couple of years and, in a word, they are both lacking in ergonomics - i.e., not user friendly.

I did have the advantage of owning two Sonata's, however.
