  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Okay, I went from the 09 4.6 basic model to a 2011 4.6 with tech. while sitting in the 2012 I didn't find any strong differences except the 8 speed transmission, (which is a plus) the front headlights (with that weird swirl) and the back tailpipes that are squared off (but not connected to the actual tailpipe). Is this car that "HOT" to where Hyundai have to find something to add to perfection each year. This car company is going to continue to excel because they actually listen to there customers. I remember in my 09 people complained about the suspension (I really didn't have any problems with it) but I see that in the 2011 the suspension feels completely different from my 09. As long as Hyundai keeps this up I will continue to buy these "LIFE-CHANGING CREATIONS":D. I must say that this is the most "AMAZING" car I ever owned.

Drive the car and see if the changes in the suspension are significant. For me the suspension change was significant and necessary for me to remain a Hyundai client...I drove the '10 for a year and I was determined to change out whether with Hyundai or another company. Hyundai does listen. For me the ride was too unforgiving in the 2010 version. I'm not as "sporty" as I thought.

I've rented a 2011 before I got the 2012 and 2012 does feel more smooth then the 2011 (and faster of course).

The lights in the front with the white led strip is lovely, at night time it looks awesome.
The back lights are also much better looking then previous years. Little things like that make the 2012 worth buying (in my opinion). The 2012 rides really smooth and quiet.

Also folding mirrors, puddle lamps, etc. (I'm not sure if 2011 had these options or not since I rented the basic version)

From a technical aspect, the 2012 is likely a pretty fair upgrade, notwithstanding any systemic issues yet to be unearthed with the GDI technology and the new tranny.

From a style perspective, the exterior changes are IMO going totally in the wrong direction for my demographic (40 something). The tail lights don't seem to blend well with the body lines and look like they are on the wrong car. The lower front grill is now huge and surrounded by a chrome strip giving the car a cheshire cat like chrome "smile" that is totally out of character with the elegant upper front grill (especially on the dark colored models). I don't find the new headlights attractive at all, just another useless copycat bling item. The new exhaust tips are also not attractive to me at all.

At least they left the elegant interior alone. Before buying the Genesis I drove Buick LaCrosse, and the number one reason I walked off that lot was the cheesy interior with chrome plated instrument bezels and little blue lights in every nook and cranny and a strange blue lighted useless strip all the way across the dash. Not sure who goes for that type of stuff...well I guess I really do..my kids thought it was awesome...

I know I'm just jealous......but I'm glad I have the 2011...

My feelings exactly the only allure "for me” was the GDI system. I’m quite happy with the 6 speed tranny and think it does a very respectable job of returning both good performance and economy and it’s proven itself reliable. I think “for me” the new visual cues do not enhance the appearance in any way over the 2011 quite the opposite

To each his own, I guess. I'm in the same demographic and really like the changes to the '12 model. I'll hopefully be taking possession of an R-Spec tomorrow.

Increasing the V6's hp and mpg along with the 8 speed transmission was a significant upgrade IMHO.

Me too... I really like the changes for 2012. It looks more refined and elegent yet sporty. The only thing that I would change would to lower the roof line a bit. Only about 2-3 inches to make it even more streamlined.

IMHO !!

I hate midgets.

You may not notice much on good to average road surfaces. But and there is always a but lol, go over really rough roads (let's face it there are many), at a normal speed of say 35 - 45 and you'll feel feel the difference.

Not as much shimmy shake rattle and roll gets into the cabin. And the steering wheel even "vibrates" less.
This observation can be conducted best by of course the potential buyer.

Note: The above info does not pertain to the 2012 genny sedan 429hp V8
r-spec, as it is designed "sporty" and bodes best on smooth roads...
In the end it's all about what you're about. If you love a tight firm sporty ride then the r-spec is for you. Otherhand if you love a more smoother ride then the other varients would work.

I applaude Hyundai for making each model more closely designed for the group intended. Now put an adjustable suspension on a genny so that we can choose the best of both worlds and you'd get a big WHOOOO HAAA!!
;)

most people would have trouble distinguishing the 2012 from the 2009-2011, with the exception of the exhaust tips being rectangular (this being the new fad now).

the little changes for the 2012 really did not impress me. however, i do think it's worth getting the 2012 simply for the higher resale value when it's time to sell.

i'm hoping that the next genesis redesign brings more flare, as i think the current generation has a rather bland looking rear end. considering how good the Sonata and upcoming Azera are looking, i have high hopes for the next genesis.

From the front, the big cheesy chrome "grin" will easily distinguish the 2012's, especially in the dark colors...;)

I guess this is why there are very few promo pics of the 2012's in any color other than platinum.

Anyone with experience driving the pre '12 Genesis will immediately sense and appreciate the HUGE changes in the new suspension. See nextcar its very easy to write nonsense like your last post on this thread. How could you possibly know what most people could perceive? You may have a hunch that the change wont be appreciated by most but it would be nothing more than a hunch. My hunch is that if you have anything more than passing knowledge of the pre '12 Genesis suspension you will immediately appreciate the difference. There was a reason Hyundai changed/tuned the suspension...If the earlier suspension had been hailed as a brilliant advance in auto dampening and control by both the professional and more importantly the driving public we wouldn't have had a suspension change by Hyundai (to the good!). Someone earlier posted that the difference can be felt over the rough stuff and he is exactly right and you nextcar are exactly wrong.

I do feel a huge difference in the suspension on my 2011. It rides extremely better now. I'm pretty sure that most if not all of the 09 Genny owners who bought a 2011-2012 will tell you that. I'm talking about the headlights and tailpipes are a stretch (objective opinion only) but Hyundai did grab a bigger audience with all the new upgrades, so surely that is something to get "EXCITED" about. People are really starting to open their eyes wide:eek: when it comes to Hyundai vehicles.

relax buddy.
if you can feel a big difference, then you made the right choice in getting the 2012.
since i didn't feel any significant difference, i chose the 2011, and i am very happy with my ride.
obviously, some people agree with you, and some people with me. it is all very subjective. so stop telling people that they are wrong.

I might be in minority here, but I have black 2012 and happen to like the "big cheesy chrome grin" :-)

To simply answer the OP question - YES!

I would not have gotten out of my Infinti lease early if not for the significant changes to the 2012 Genesis 3.8.

Maybe the changes aren't significant enough for V8 owners, but I would think every 2008-11 Genesis V6 owner would want 43 more HP and 2 mpg better fuel economy!

Maybe if I were starting from scratch, but I wouldn't think for one second about replacing my 2010 3.8. It wouldn't make financial sense.

If the progress from 2009 to 2012 on the Genesis line is any indication of what Hyundai has to offer, Im a customer for a very very long time. With that said there is a huge responsibility for the design team and the engineering team to stay way ahead of their competition. Im ready to see what Hyundai has to offer in the years to come. Im excited :).
