• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I straight piped my 2012 R-Spec

It sounds....delightful

Everyone compliments it

I wouldn't change the sound one bit....but..

The cabin drone is unbearable at times. Mostly at 1800rpm and 2000ish. On the highway 75-90mph is a consistent hum, which isn't unbearable but after 2 hours your tired of it.

I've been told to put performence mufflers on to dampen the drone. Has anyone straight piped theirs? If so, please chime in.

Any suggestions?

If anyone want's to hear it, I can try and post. It's pretty wonderful.

I DID ELECTRONIC CUTOUTS FROM QTP.. WHICH BASICALLY I GET BEST OF BOTH WORLDS... STRAIGHT PIPE SOUND AND ALSO FACTORY QUIETNESS!

I considered electronic cuts but you get a different sound way up the pipe like that. Mine sounds much more throaty and raspy. Like a vette almost.

i see... i just drive way too much to be able to have that on all the time.. i enjoy rolling up on vette's and stangs and such and surprise the chit out of them lol.. then turn them off and confuse them..

Looks like you guys are ready for the next step maybe with a little grey poupon

I AM GOING TO TRY TO GET IT WHEN I AM IN GEAR, AS IT SOUNDS DEEPER AND THROATIER WHEN IN GEAR.. REGARDLESS. ELECTRONIC CUTOUTS GIVES YOU BEST OF BOTH WORLDS IMO..

Yeah I think that's the only way to get it stock and also super loud when you want it without getting annoyed on regular drives. You guys should use a phone to record how it sounds in park/neutral then while driving or from the inside.

Interior exhaust drone has little to do with volume. It has more to do with the resonant frequency. You can:

A) Make a Helmholtz chamber / Helmholtz resonator like many luxury cars have stock. For example:
au-cb-350z-car-15.jpg

B) Use quality pipe. Crinkle bent, thin wall pipes radiate more noise. If you use quality pipe, you shouldn't hear it resonating inside. It'll just sound like crap outside.

C) Make it quiet with a cut out or whatever.

D) A little of each. At least use a straight through resonator to soften the tone. Its going to sound super tinny without at least a resonator. Tune the diameter of the pipe to the engine. That will change the tone of the exhaust and could avoid the drone if you can't afford to build the helmholtz chamber. If you can't afford the quality mandrel bent SS exhaust tubing, you can get off the shelf cat backs which are cheaper and sound good.

stock the V6 and V8 really sound the same - like NOTHING...it is sad
here is mine from the inside with windows up under hard acceleration. I need a video from the outside as it sounds AWESOME now!
