I'll address mainly the cost of windshield replacement and your concerns about how insurers might feel about that. My windshield was replaced for over $3000 Canadian in the U.S. after it was hit by a rock near Disneyworld. My insurer paid without batting an eye and I have been told by my Ontario insurer that windshield comprehensive claims will have no impact on my premium. Maybe you're just unlucky with the other problems you've experienced. My 2015 with the Tech package has cost me nothing other than for oil changes and tire replacement in the over 4 years I've had it. All the sources available say the Genesis has at least average reliability and is recommended by Consumer Reports based on a number of factors including reliability and owner satisfaction. Sorry you're unhappy.
I think CR reported the 2015 as having below-average reliability. Which isn't too surprising since it was a new model. I bought my used 2015 in June and have had a number of issues. Nothing major, though: the gasket (or some other rubber-type part) on the rear windshield brake light started to fall apart; a plastic cover over the bellows on the sunroof popped off, I spent weeks trying to get Blue Link to work. Ended up needing a new head unit. That's been about it, though. Taking my car in to the shop is a PITA, but not that bad.
