  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Last thing I remember I was looking at an E-class after I left the Caddy place to give them back the new CTS. I ended up here. I can't believe I bought a Hyundai that's this nice.

Wow.

So, hello!

Most recent previous cars:
CTS-V Coupe
CTS-V Sedan
E550
the list goes on. . .

Nice and very reliable. I have over 122k on my 2011 Genesis 4.6 with tech. Its a great car. Welcome and enjoy.

Welcome to the forums, post some pictures

Welcome to the forum. I haven't bought a Genesis (yet) as I am waiting for the 2015's to hit the lot. Post up some pics of your new ride.

HI,

:welcome:

What did you buy and how did your thought process go? I too was looking at the E-Class and ended up here.

Drew: Well, I've had AMG's before (which is how I ended up with CTS-V's), so when I went looking for a comfy commuter with smart cruise and enough scrot not to be totally boring, I went E-class (non-AMG). Not impressed with anything but the E550, I went comparative shopping.

Starting with Cadillac, the new CTS and Vsport is very awesome. But CUE, when compared to everything else but MyFordBadTouch is horrible. I, for one, like the knob you get on the luxury brands. I don't miss the touchscreen at all.

I don't care for Audi based on experience with a buggy S4. The 5-series is ok, just doesn't blow my skirt up for the money. The Lexus is just as boring looking as the Genesis IMHO, and the GS350 was priced just like a damned E-class. The Lexus is nice, for sure.

So, I remembered the Genesis from a news article in 2012 when they put this stupid R-spec label on the car. The local Hyundai dealer had a couple '13's, and sent me out for a 3 day test drive to win the business. I respect letting the product speak for itself.

You can go through this car and pick up on the features Hyundai ripped from the other brands. Then, for the price, it's the deal of the century! Mine is CPO, and they were dealing... I don't know if the Genesis 5.0 is a hard one to move, but they wanted to sell the car.

The smart cruise is a commuting life changer. Once you figure out how to use it, it's something I can't live without.

I don't lack any luxury feature except maybe blind spot monitoring. I'm a 'proper' wing mirror user, so the BSM is just insurance, my mirrors cover the blindspot so not a huge deal.

What's not to like? Mine seems to pull left more than the road crown pulls my other cars. There's a bit of a shimmy in the stock Conti tires. I think both can be mitigated. One of my GDI pumps is louder than it probably ought to be, but that's been noted for a fix on the next routine service.

Misc crap I've noted in the 2 weeks I've had it:

- DO NOT get used to the auto-hold. When I drive one of my other cars, I'm going to end up rear ending someone. HA!

- WTF is up with not saving the randomize setting in the USB music player? REALLY?

- If every other damn light it a cool blue or white, WTF is up with the ashtray yellow light? One: I don't want an ashtray, but two: we couldn't stick an LED in there?

- The little sliding cord passthrough in the center console. Come on. Maybe it's just me, I don't get the use case for that.

I'm still a bit shocked I bought a Hyundai. But, all the extra money I have in my pocket helps ease my little mind.

Welcome!!
I came from a Lexus GS350 AWD and shopped the same cars you did. I couldn't get past the electric shaver look of the Lexus and thought the R-Spec gave me the most bang for the $$.
Good luck and enjoy!!

Welcome aboard. Great review. Coming from your previous rides really says a lot.
Mind posting what you paid and what the mileage was on the RSpec?

I like this thread - I'm also new to Hyundai and the Genesis, buying a new 2013 about 10 days ago. As mentioned above, they are seriously clearing these things out at about 25% off MSRP.

I came from a 2011 Acura TL AWD Tech with a 6 speed manual. Car was a fast, handled great, reliable, and was on rails in most weather conditions. Only problem - I tossed my back out (for the 3rd time) this past winter and can no longer take the punishing ride or clutch actions. I needed something smoother, auto, and big enough for a family (of 4).

I wasn't looking for anything expensive (mostly used). Things I looked at:
2011 C-Class - Way too small for a family (my 13 year old son is 5'10")
2011 E-Class - Way overpriced for a used
2011 5 Series - A contender, but didn't want to Break My Wallet at this time
2014 VW Passat - I had a 2002 Passat 1.8, and they brought back the 1.8 for 2014. But the new Passat is nothing like the older Passats. No character, personality, etc.
2011 Lexus ES350 - Probably very reliable, but boring, handled lousy, and the interior electronics felt last-gen.

It was an Edmunds review of the 2011 ES350 that pointed me to the Genesis, mentioning it and the Buick Lacrosse as the price-range competition. I never thought of looking at the Genesis (but do fondly remember the commercials back around 2009 when they first came out).

I first went after the price to see what they're going for (TrueCar is a pretty good resource). My eyes bugged out when I saw the discounts - I could get a new Genesis for what should be the used price of the same car. After researching the feature content and mostly glowing reviews, I was hooked. I then looked at a used 2011 Genesis 4.6, but the added features of the 2012 (and now 2013) convinced me otherwise.

Compared to the TL, the Genesis obviously doesn't handle as well and the seats aren't as hugging. But just about everything else, including the infotainment system, visibility front, side, and rear, comfort, smoothness, etc. is better (for me) than the TL. I am going to miss the AWD come winter, but I'm pretty sure I can manage that (born and raised in the NE). The 0-60 between the two are just about the same. A pretty big thing is the Genesis runs on regular. TL only premium.

The kids much prefer the Genesis to the TL. Rear seat room is bigger, they now have heated seats, and most importantly, the dial for changing songs is a bit closer than before. :)

I'm hoping to have the reliability and longevity that others here have had. Never thought I'd own a Hyundai, but this car is pretty amazing for the (current) price.

NSX: The '14's around here are clearing out for about $41,700. My 13 has 16K miles, $29,500 is what I paid. I'm sure someone got a better deal, but I was happy with mine. I never looked at the 3.8's, just the 5.0.

When I was looking at cars before purchasing my Genesis, I did check out the E550, and sat in the back seat. Sheesh, yes I'm pushing 60, but I could hardly get in or out of it. To get in, I had to sort of twist and get my body heading in a particular direction to succeed, and to get out I had to raise my legs almost to my face and then twist in the seat in order to get them out of the car. At the same dealership they had a Genesis, so I went over to check it out. After seeing how limited the back seat was in the E550, I made sure to check out the Genesis. Wow, I just stepped right in and sat down! I mentioned to the salesman how difficult it was to get in the back seat of the 500, and his response? "That's why MB has the S class"
