  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've noticed that many Genesis owners were previous Mercedes, BMW, Lexus owners. But isn't the first year model have the worst reliability? What if this first year model has a lot of problems and Mercedes, BMW and Lexus owners turn away?

This is what I'm afraid of. I hope this little car company called Hyundai will become successful with this car!!!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Since Genesis appears to have its first "RECALL" notice we will see how dealer's take care of customer service.

I remember the first year of Lexus- I think it was the LS400's had an initial recall for something- can't remember off hand. I know alot of dealer did not want their service
bays overloaded and sent technicians to the customers homes or business for the fix.

I hope Hyundai pays attention to their "higher end Hyundai" customers.

Hello Poopsicle and welcome to the boards.

Since the car has been out in Korea since January and the amount of money they invested in this venture I would think they have worked most bugs out.

I have heard that Hyundai has put hundreds of thousands of miles on test cars, along with the cars they have been using at the Discover Genesis events, I would think that Hyundai has done some homework before releasing a vehicle that they plan on using to change peoples perception of Hyundai.

All I can say from the cars I test drove at the Genesis event (V6 & V8). I noticed no issues and will not be afraid to buy a first generation car like the Genesis.

But isn't the first year model have the worst reliability?

i am not worried about reliability, i think that is something of yesterday's car manufacturing for all of them (with the exception of the chinese). what i am worried about is design flaws that come out (as they would in any car), such as the water entering the trunk when it is wet outside and you open the trunk quickly on this car. that should have been caught in the design process and taken care of.

An old rock-n-roller once said the famous phrase...."paranoia will destroy ya". I think it applies here. Keep in mind the currently available engine is a tried and true 3.8V6 that isn't new to a Hyundai vehicle, even though a rear-wheel drive concept for that one. Given the magnitude of the expenses in R & D, and the overall volume expectations for this car, they can't afford to have a major problem of any kind. Even so, if they do, seems I remember something about a 100K mile warranty on the drivetrain.... I think I read somewhere that Hyundai is now the 5th largest auto manufacturer in the world. So much for the concept of "a little car company".

I've had my Genesis now for over one month. And while it's not without some minor issues, I would stress that they are minor in nature--just like every other new (or newer) vehicle I've purchased in the past.

BTW, do you own a Genesis (or other Hyundai)?

Dan

Poopsicle I also raise the question. Do you own a Hyundai presently? I have owned a Sonata for 3 years with no problems and have now had a Genesis for about one month with no problems at all. And regarding the recall notice, my dealer took care of it the same day I received a post card. Was in and out within 30 minutes.

Dan - according to Hyundai, the V-6 in the Genesis is pretty much a different engine from that used in its other models.

My mother bought her Azera less than 2 weeks after the model was introduced. She's had it nearly 3 years and it's been flawless. As long as the Genesis follows that trend, early adopters have nothing to worry about.

They have nothing to worry about; this ain't a first year VW. Enjoy your cars fellas!

I operate a reliability survey, and Hyundais often do okay even in the first year of a design. The Santa Fe had a rough first year, but the Sonata and Tucson were pretty solid right out of the gate.

I should also note that even the 2007 Santa Fe averaged a bit under one repair trip per vehicle per year. That's what counts as "high" these days.

I might have an initial result for the Genesis as soon as February--depends on how quickly owners sign up and participate in the survey.

Welcome to the board. I never even looked at a Hyundai until 2 months ago when Genesis came on my radar. "Who is Hyundai?" is a legitimate concern, so I did my homework and checked them out.

I think a ranking as the 5th largest car manufacturer in the world recently surpassing Honda, and with the single largest auto plant in the world producing 1.3 million vehicles annually they are a lot more than "a little car company"... In fact I cannot find one example of a product currently made in South Korea and exported to the USA that is considered "inferior". Their reputation is in fact the opposite, and they appear to be giving the Japanese and others some serious competition.
