I purchased a 4.6 Gen several weeks ago. The car has not been a disappointment but I would take exception to people who feel this is a luxury car. As a previous owner of various cars including Lexus LS, 7 Series BMW, and S Class Mercedes it does not have a luxury feel nor ride. For example, the hood and trunk feel too flimsy.

The plus side is the equipment level, exterior look, and interior design. I constantly receive complements concerning the interior.

The negative side are the lack of equal passenger seating and most glaring the tilt steering wheel forces me to lower my preferred ride height or I literally cannot see the main dials. The lack of a smooth ride, its choppy and bumps can be felt too much. Also I don’t look forward going to a Hyundai dealership and being treated as if I purchased something that costs considerably less and are not pampered with Internet connections, newspapers, magazines, and other amenities including real food which is what luxury car dealerships do.

But I’m happy it is what I thought it would be and is a fine toy.

WOW..I'd hate to read what you'd write about a car that you didn't think too much of.... I'm surprised that you bought it.

It does amaze me that so many of us Genesis owners are so concerned about the waiting area of their respective dealerships. Waiting areas such as you describe would be nice but IMHO hardly worth the 10's of thousands of dollars for the difference. Quite frankly, I don't plan on spending much time in ANY dealership's waiting area irrespective of the creature "comforts."

Wow as well. I am continuously amazed at how many people bitch about the car, particularly the harsh ride. Some of us, many perhaps, have had the pleasure of owning luxury cars before. And to make a change to another brand without testing the car (I tested both V6 & V8) before buying I find difficult to understand. I noticed the harsh drive but discounted it due to all the bells and whistles, size, and handling and the best damn bang for the buck in value. I love this car and look forward to every time I need to drive. MrBO462, just get use to all the compliments and enjoy.

Who said I didn't test drive? As I said its a toy. The fact is the ride is no where near that of a luxury car.

As an owner of 3 Lexus in the past 9 years I agree with this statement.
The Lexus service included a car wash and a loaner was always available.
The out of warranty service was quite expensive as well.

All said the Genesis is probably the most exciting car I remember ever owning.
The ride is firm but handling seems precise. SOLID, WELL BUILT and GREAT value!

Its a sport sedan, so it will feel firmer than a luxury car. The fact that people still complain about the suspension should tell you something about it.

Everything is relative and the Cars you mention all cost way more than the Genesis. If you were used to driving a Rolls Royce or Bently, the cars that you mention might not seem as luxurious as what you were used to. The problem is defining 'Luxury'. Is the Genesis a Luxury Car? Yes, compared to a Ford Escort.

I recently had a loaner Lexus ES350 - 2010, that was slightly more expensive than the Genesis that I was test driving. the Genesis completely 'blew away' the ES350.

I drive a 2007 Lexus GS350, which is far more expensive than the Genesis. The Genesis has a much better ride than my GS350.

I have also owned 3 Lexus in the last 10 years, and for the price point that the Genesis competes at, Lexus cannot touch it!

Does Lexus have a Nice Dealership? Absolutely! - But in a perfect world, I never want to visit the dealership. I get my oil changed at Tires Plus for $15. ---- BTW - I have seen way too much of my Lexus Dealership in the last 3 years of ownership of my Lexus GS350 (Reliability is my #1 Concern)

Are you all buying the car or the "dealer experience" ? If you want fluff, go pay 20K more and enjoy the dealership! Test drive a car before you buy it and if you don't like the ride, DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!! Luxury or not, this car is a phenominal deal and I would rank it in the top 3 of the 47 cars I've owned in my lifetime. Besides if your spending that much time in a dealer, there must be a problem with the car you bought!

Boy..."You hit it right on the head"...I couldn't have said it better....I'm also from new jersey.... northern (bergen county) and I had three(3) brand new bmw's....enjoyed all three of them...can't complain...I still have one.(my wife drives it.)I also experienced the plush waiting room...coffee...sometime donuts etc....It was all very nice...Do I miss the sometime,phony pampering?....Mr.this and Mr.that....yes, Sir and no Sir...I'm sure that was all amortized in the "COST" of my cars....do I miss all that?..NOT AT ALL...I now have a 2010 genesis v/6 fully loaded,premium.tech,etc....Is it a bmw?...no....Do I enjoy it, just as much?....maybe more,...especially that I'm now semi retired and still enjoy cars....The BMW, that I was about to get before the Genesis,would have cost almost $22K more...All the best!!!

Agreed! I've owned 45 cars, many of which I've really loved and many that exceeded my expectations. None of them more so than the Genesis.

My last one was a 2007 Lexus ES350, a car I looked forward to for many years before being able to buy it. Maybe I expected too much (though I really don't think I did) but it didn't exceed my expectations. Even though I really enjoyed driving it, I started to feel very early that it was more "fluff" than substance.

The dealer had beautiful marble floors, charged more than $120 for an oil change (which I did not partake of!) and did about $5000 worth of damage to the car while doing some simple repairs.

My Hyundai dealer charges about $40 for an oil change, washes the car, treats me with great respect and the car absolutely BLOWS AWAY the ES350! It's not perfect, but the fact that it exceeds virtually all of my expectations makes it a true luxury vehicle to me. Of course, YMMV.

My Genesis dealer provides free oil changes, car washes and lifetime powertrain warranty for as long as I own the car (they call it "dealership for life"). Always courteous. Great to deal with in general. Price ('10 Tau with Tech) was very good. And, if I may, the ride pleases me whether going graciously or pushing it hard. Happy camper here.

Come on some one now has to say they had 46 cars, and then some one 47 and my daddy can beat-up your daddy.

I'm glad you enjoy your Gen but I also said that I enjoyed mine, so what's the problem?

Oh I get it you can't say any negative about the car even if its true.

Lack of tolerance is what causes problems.

1986 Merc Cougar, 1988 Saab 900s, 1988 Audi 80, 1995 Olds Aurora, 2001 Olds Aurora

....and I can tell you that the Genesis is by far the best I've ever owned...

I have no doubt that the cars you mentioned feel more luxurious.
Heck, I'd take those cars over my Genny in a heart beat! IF they were the same price, that is.

The reason why the Genesis is getting glowing reviews and why we praise it over and over is probably because it exceeded the expectation as a "Hyundai", and is such a great value, overall package per dollar-wise.
NOT because it's better than a BMW 7 series, or Merc S-class.

I think I understand your opinion and feel the same way. Except for the flimsy hood/trunk complaint.
