In the market for Genesis

New to the forum, in the market for a Genesis Sedan. I will be headed to the Florida area (palm beach) from NY/NJ area to shop around for a used 2015/2016 as my research indicates they seem to be cheaper down there. I've owned a 2014 Impala, and was about to purchase a 2016 Maxima when i decided to get the car i really want, Genesis. im renting now and its expensive

Done some reading and have a one or two questions you may be able to help with:

1) I really want a moonroof, am i setting myself up for a headache with this feature? i've never had a vehicle with a moonroof, i dont need it, but want it. ive read about them shattering...

2) for those that live in the snowy areas, how do you cope with RWD and snow. do you swap tires for snow season?

3) If i purchase my vehicle in florida can i have the warranty/maintenance work done in my home state or is that tied to the dealership i purchase from?

anything else i should look out for when buying THIS vehicle used.....

will be reading more of the forum to arm myself with info. thanks

looking to get a new genesis and had some questions:

1)if i buy a 2016 genesis in florida can i have warranty and maintenance work done in another state (ny/ny)

2) looking to consider an extended warranty as the used vehicle im looking at has approx. 40,000 miles. can someone perhaps point me in the right direction of an extended warranty that would cover electrical work and allow me to go to the service center near me.. (im looking at HPP). must the warranty be purchased when purchasing the car?

3) with the panoramic roof, do you use it as often as you thought you would? ive never had a moonroof, read about the shattering roofs. I'd like to have one, wondering if its worth the potential headache of a shattering roof. also a slight add to cost with the moonroof.

i thought i started a thread days ago but can't find that thread....not sure what i did wrong.

ill be flying down to florida as it seems they are cheaper had there....im from NY/NJ but currently in the WV/KY area for work.

1. Warranty and maintenance work can be done anywhere. We've even done warranty work on Canadian vehicles at my dealership.

2. Where are you buying it from? If you are buying it from a Hyundai dealership, then it should come with a certified pre-owned warranty, which will give you the 100k mile powertrain warranty back. The HPP would extended the bumper to bumper to 100k miles, and possibly beyond, depending which package you get. You don't have to buy it with the car, but if you do, you can roll it into the financing, and could potentially get it cheaper, since the dealer is already making money on the car.

3. I have the pano roof on my wife's Sonata. I never use it. I don't think she really does either.

1) If you bought from a USA dealer, you can get warranty service from any USA dealer (under the jurisdiction of Hyundai Motor America). Technically, one is not "entitled" to receive warranty service of a USA purchased Hyundai in another country, but sometimes HMA (or the Hyundai org in the country where you are) "may" agree to do it.

2) You can buy an official HMA extended warranty (known as HPP, Hyundai Protection Plan) up until the time the 5 year - 60K mile runs out. However, the longer you wait, the more it may cost. The HPP warranty is honored at any Hyundai USA dealer and they will have the HPP warranty info in the Hyundai computers that dealers use. You can buy the HPP from any USA dealer, regardless of where you bought your car, however, word is that HMA is asking dealers to not sell the to out of state owners, due to price undercutting. There are many thread on the subject of finding a dealer who will sell them at a good price. It is not unusual to get an initial quote from your local dealer of 2-3 times the price they are willing to accept.

Where are you buying it from? If you are buying it from a Hyundai dealership, then it should come with a certified pre-owned warranty, which will give you the 100k mile powertrain warranty back.

Not all Hyundai used cars sold by Hyundai dealers are CPO (certified Pre-Owned). The dealer has to pay HMA about $800-$1000 (rough guess) to sell a used car as CPO, since HMA is then responsible for providing the extended power-train warranty.

There should be no issue getting warranty work done wherever you are. You don't need to service the vehicle at the place you buy it from. I have a moonroof in my 2016 Genesis Sedan and I've never had a problem. I live in Florida so I can't say much about driving in the snow...

i am looking to buy anywhere from Orlando Florida to the west palm beach area. The first vehicle im looking at will have the moonroof option but i'll be looking at another without the moonroof to "compare".

how much can i expect to pay for extended warranty, approximately? (2016 genesis, 3.8L, 39,000 miles) im trying to get my finances lined up so i know what to expect.

Also try Delray Hyundai. Bigger dealer with good selection.
If you go north get an AWD if possible. I have one in Florida but drive north at times.
A used Genesis is an excellent buy due to the high depreciation. Get the premium package which is the best bang for the buck.
My G80 has no issues with the sun roof.

Also you should look into a lease for a new G80

The Genesis is superior in many ways to the Maxima

My suggestion is to look out of state. Many more options and the high dealer fee's in FL really impact your out of pocket. I live in St Augustine and just took delivery of a 2015 3.8 Ultimate with 12.5k. Paid $27,800. OH caps dealer fee's at $250. The web is a great resource on state dealer fee's.

As far as extended warranty/CPO. Since Hyundai offers 5yr 60k bumper to bumper, buying anything this new with low miles will still have some warranty left to cover any issues outstanding and any new issues for a a few years. The Hyundai CPO only puts the extended powertrain to 10yr/100k and you will end up paying an additional $1-2k. Hyundai charges the dealers close to $1000 for it, and they just pass it on.

The 2015 is going to replace my wife's 2010 Genesis. Our experience with that car has been excellent, close to trouble free for 8yr/100k. My advise would be to pass on a warranty and bank the extra $$ for what should be minimal repairs post expiration of the 5yr/60k.

I was in the exact position you were six weeks ago, and after an extended search I was able to purchase a base model 2016 Genesis 3.8L less than 10 days ago. I did a multi state search and found that there are plenty available in the Dallas area at multiple dealerships (online and brick and mortar) with considerably lower mileage than what you are currently looking at that are slightly below or very near your range of $25,000 (not a brag, but I paid just under 25k and mine had 14,480 at the time of purchase and was in the exact color ext and int I wanted. I rate the ext 8.5 (a few minor scratches) and the int 9.5 (very nice, no stains, rips, or discolorations). Of course, it took a long time and lots of no sales from sales managers before I was able to get it). Also, I know that JIMELLISHYUNDAI in Atlanta has a great reputation and a large inventory to choose from and is currently having a big sale on 2015/2016 Genesis'. With the 18's now coming in, I think that while their prices are somewhat higher, the vehicles look pristine (all CPO) and they may negotiate more than they were willing to last month, and again, a big inventory to choose from.

As a FL resident the one thing to consider buying here are the dealer "documentation fee's". The state doesnt cap them and are one of the highest in the country. It will add $6-800 to anything you find. A advantage of South FL is the large number of lease returns due to the population and age demographics. Sometimes the cars are used seasonal and you may find lower miles for the given model year. Having said that I just purchased a 15 3.8 rwd Ultimate out of Akron OH and had it shipped down.

The key to finding that unique deal is time and patients. I had been looking on and off for about 6 months before pulling the trigger.

Don't let the document fees stop you. They are basically additional dealer profit. What counts is what you pay with the document fees included which may allow them to give you a bigger discount from MSRP

I was able to find a 2015 3.8 Ultimate with 12k for $27.800 two weeks ago. Having looked on and off for 6 months, given the miles (wanted <15k), condition,clean history and option packages, it was $3k less than anything else I found. As far as your target for $26k, haven't seen anything close to that for a ultimate unless it had a ton of miles or a branded/rebuild title.

Keep in mind with the 18's already hitting the showrooms. the price points in the used market will start to change. If you can wait, prices will drop. Only challenge is the selection of low miles/clean history cars will also be diminishing.

Having bought numerous cars for myself and friends/family across the country over the last number of years, I do believe that the internet has flatted used car pricing. I also have a friend who is the sales manager for a top 10 in the country volume Ford dealership and pick his brain as often as I can. While a few dealers throw a stupid high price waiting for the sucker, most realize that if they list it on the internet at a price that's greater than 2-3% of the actual selling price, most internet shoppers never click on it as they are sorting on price and miles most of the time. If you follow a car on the market and see that they have already reduced its price, usually tha'ts a sign that its already gotten into that 2-3% cushion.

The choice used cars that are priced correctly dont last. If you find one that checks your boxes and is priced right, move quickly as I have had dealers sell it out from under me. Local buyer, someone willing to pay a few hundred more, dealer sales team preferences etc. I've even left credit card deposits only to find out later that day that it went to someone else. Happens more than you think.

was driving to a location to possibly buy one and the lady was nice enough to call and tell me that it sold. i told her to call and tell me if it sells so i dont waste a long drive there. i had my doubts about whether they actually had the car, it was priced so well.
spent the whole day looking, came home empty handed.

tomorrow is another day. gotta find one in the next 2 days otherwise i may be forced to buy another brand or a beater car for a few weeks

bought one.
2015, CPD, pano moonroof, 16k miles, RWD, out the door price at $28k.

did i overpay? i dont know, but it was the cheapest within driving distance to me. renting a car at $50 a day got old real quick. i bit the bullet and cut my losses, put myself into a car i like, and got my life back to normal. im eating and sleeping normal again.

im happy with my purchase. car drives like a dream.

if i can find the same color/options in AWD version ill consider trading for it, but im fine with RWD. fun to drive it. performs very well on the road.
