  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I got my genesis last week and just returned from a driving trip along the northern california coast. It is a great car! I have no complaints. It performed well on the narrow twisting coast route 1 and just as nicely on the freeway (US 101).

Re: I got a Genesis today!

Yay, we have a second owner. :p

btw, welcome to the boards.

and I hope you are enjoying your new ride. The State I live in(New Jersey), none of the dealers still have any in yet, but I did call one of them who had brochures, so I requested one, just to see it. No, I am not going to buy the car since I already got the car I was dreaming about just this February, but I may save some money and consider the V6, base Genesis for my dad about 1 or 2 model year later, I just want to see how people who actually bought the car loves it or hates it.

Would love to see some pics if you can post them. What option packages did you get? oh, and so many people here were complaining about the mark up games they play and the trash called 'Market Adjustment' thing. Did the dealer you bought the car from also played that trick on you? Just wonderring.

Re: I got a Genesis today!

I bought exactly the same car as in the pictures. It is the same color and with same option package. I shopped around and found a dealer who was dropping his hyundai franchise. He sold me the only genesis he had at well below MSRP. Other dealers in the area were asking above MSRP.

Congrats! You have good taste. :p

Did you buy in Folsom, CA by chance? The only reason I ask is because I heard they were closing their Hyundai dealership.

Congratulations! Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up...

P.S. I moved this post into its own topic so that it doesn't get overlooked (lost in the other discussion).

Invalid VIN???

My insurance agent, state farm, has informed me that the VIN I supplied is listed as a 4.6 V8 or invalid, depending on which site she goes to. The car is a 3.8 V6.

I double checked the VIN against the dashboard tag and it is correct. I also tried logging it into the hyundai site and got an invalid vin message.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Hmmmm, strange. I didn't have the same exact problem, but for whatever reason, my agent didn't even show the 3.8l in their system. They worked their way around it though. I'm sure I'm paying the correct premium.....I have a hard time believing insurance for a V8 Genesis would be only $4 more per year compared to my 2006 Honda Pilot, which is what it's costing me for my Genesis.

Have you tried another insurance company just to see what they say?

Blinking Red Light

Does anyone know what the blinking red light on the top of the dashboard indicates when the engine is off?

Is it an alarm system?

Yes, I believe so. Many other makes have the same light on the dash or rearview mirror (BMW). Some even have them near the door locks or the stereo. I'm not sure why it still blinks with the doors unlocked though.

Re: Invalid VIN???

Before my test drive, the dealer provided me with the spec sheets on the first four vehicles they were receiving, which included the VINs. I then called my insurance company [USAA] to check out what it would cost to insure vs. my 528i. Same thing, they never heard of a Genesis, and when entered into the National VIN System it came back as INVALID VIN. They then assured me that when I got the car they could process a policy manually, without using the automatic VIN lookup. I asked the dealer and he said it was a systemic problem with Korean VINs. No one seems to know exactly why, but he said it happens often when people go to register/insure Sonatas & Azeras.

Sunglasses holder

According to the manual, there is a sunglasses holder where the bluetooth phone is located. Is there another place for the sunglasses to be stored?

BTW, the blinking red light I asked about earlier is, in fact, an anti-theft system indicator.

For some strange reason, the Bluetooth controls on all Hyundai vehicles are located where the sunglass holder would normally be (you can even see the door for the sunglass holder). I'm sure it saves them a couple dollars a car or something.

As far as an actual place for sunglasses, nothing springs to mind. I usually put them in a case in my messenger bag. If you have "flat" sunglasses you can try the small cubby in front of the gear shifter (above the ashtray), or you could get an inexpensive sunglass clip for the visor:

On a somewhat related note, has anyone found a good place to store change? I purchased a cheap coin holder that doesn't hold pennies (urgh!) and I have yet to find a convenient, yet concealed, spot to put it. The one I purchased looks like a less tall version of the one pictured below. I had initially thought I could remove the ashtray and put it there, and secure it with some double-stick tape, but it doesn't fit. I also tried the pop-out door pocket. I stuck it on one end, but it was too difficult to access.

Geez Hyundai, how hard would it have been to include a built-in coin holder in the center console? :( I'll probably just end up throwing it all in the ashtray for lack of a better solution.

Do we have another "con"? :p

Yep, I have since added these two to the appropriate topic. :)

Doesn't the back side of the visor have a sunglass clip right next to the slide for the lighted vanity mirror?

I don't think that's a sunglass clip as it would crush your classes when you put the visor up. I'm pretty sure that's for holding your parking and/or toll card(s).
