  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took my now 4k miles 2010 Genny to a trustworthy independent mechanic on Friday. Told him upfront on the phone about my issues with the jittery ride and he figured maybe I had a tire or two that needed road force balancing. Said it is surprisingly common with new cars. Anyway, I scouted out the area around the shop for some good roads to highlight the ride issues and found a sample set. We set out with him behind the wheel and soon enough we were bouncing around. His feedback during the ride: "It's definitely a very firm suspension. It really hugs the road. I like it. I feel like I can take it into a corner at high speed with confidence. The steering feel is excellent." We went back to the shop and that was basically the end of it. He said the tires were fine. The long and the short of it is that the car is fine and I'm not used to a firm suspension coming out of a Maxima GLE. (Doh!)

His feedback echoed my friend at work who drives a sporty WRX around center city Philly and whose previous car was a 5-series. So, in the case of my 2010, it appears that I am the problem. I still don't like the ride but I'm going to stick it out for a while to see if I grow accustomed to it. The fact that others like it gives me a measure of confidence that I could get there eventually. If not, I'll look at cars known for their soft suspension. I do love the look of the car and the feature set which is why I bought it in the first place.

Given my previous posts, figured I had to come out and let you know that my car is fine. I still think it's important for potential buyers to read about ride quality concerns since they may face a similar issue if they are coming from softer sprung vehicles. But for those of you who have been saying it is a preference issue and not a design flaw, I'm now swung to your position.

Again, speaking only about the 2010 here, not the 2009.

You didn't have to do this, but you did. I'm sure I won't be the only one to say "thank you very much".

As has been mentioned in some of the tire threads, replacing the stock Dunlops with a softer-riding tire will significantly change the harshness of the ride. You might want to start considering which tires you would want to replace the Dunlops with to give you a ride that is more to your liking. Personally, I went with the Continental DWS and it did indeed smooth out some of the "harshness" of the ride. My wife even noticed this, and she is generally oblivious of anything car-related. :D

First, Thank you for posting this.... while I love the ride...I am sorry you are not enjoying it...

Things that affect the ride..

tires... I have blizzaks for the winter and Extremecontact for the summer.
Those blizzaks really soften up the ride.. to mushy for me but needed for snow...

rear weight.... In winter I keep 160 lbs of salt in the trunk for traction... that softens the ride even more... to me it makes the rear feel sloppy but others might like it...
