If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone been able to modify the LED Fog lamps to be independent of the Headlights?

Currently to turn the fog lamps on, the Headlights have to be on. I would like it to be able to turn them on as I wish just by using the switch to turn them on.

Here is a video of someone doing a re-wiring on a 2Dr Genesis so you can see what i mean.

The 2015 V6 Sedan does not come with fog lights. If you are talking about the Genesis Coupe, this forum is for the 2015 Sedan. I'm curious, because your profile says you drive a 3.8 V6. When you put in the fog lamps aftermarket, you can wire them in as you like.

He is probably from Canada where all Genesis sedans regardless of trim come with fog lights. ;)

Ahh, my mistake. Sorry.

Indeed I am in Canada:p

I have a 2015 Sedan 3.8 V6 AWD with did come with the LED Fog lamps.

Just want we need, the lights of our cars demanding independence!! Next thing ya' know cars will be driving themselves, sheesh! ;-)

I would love to do this too..anyone out there have any ideas?

Wait a minute... So these fog lights are only on at night while your headlights are on? You can't turn them on during the day without having the headlights fully on?

Correct they are ONLY on when the Headlights are Turned ON. My objective is to get it to come on without the need to have the Headlights set to ON.

Well I'm right there with you. I want the fog lights on all the time... Though keep in mind that Hyundai says you should only use them when needed as they'll drain your battery.

That thread is interesting but from what I see on cars today, fog lights are no longer the good old fog lights.. to me they are "design" lights just to give the car a nice look. Take the 2014 Ford Edge for example, those "fog lights" wont do a thing for you.

I requested this from my dealer and they told me Car Manufactures have to follow a rule which states fogs lights are required to be "Off" while high beams are on. Hence why i believe they are dependent on the headlamps. As for consuming high amounts of power, that makes no sense as they are LED, the Stereo uses more power.

I went to a Shop that does mods like this and they said i would need to re-wire* the Fog lamps so I will probably get that done shortly.

Yes, I feel they're more of a design element than anything. I never "need" to use fog lights. I never have and I doubt I ever will. I've been driving for 26 years so I doubt anything is going to change at this point.

I certainly have no problem with laws preventing selfish drivers from over-lighting their path and blinding oncoming drivers.

Neither do I, but I've never seen LED "fog lights" do this. I see plenty of people running around with extremely bright aftermarket headlights and/or fog lights but none of the OEM LED fog lights or daytime running lights over-light the car's path and blind oncoming drivers - which is what we're referring to here.

I'd like to know the purpose of turning on fog lamps in the bright sun, given that all Genesi have DRLs. Somebody 'splain that please. Until I hear a good reason, I figure that they are just "ego projectors."

Everyone has their own taste and opinions. There might not be a "reason" or "purpose" and I'm assuming you don't have fog lamps on your Model so you may just be bitter or biased against it.

Most of my communicate is early morning / dusk and I rearly have my headlights ON as you do know HIDs have a life span not that is a short one or big deal. I drive with my Lamps on which are my DRL, Sidemarkers and Taillights and those times of the day when the sunlight is not that bright the LED fog lamps and LED DRLs together would look amazing in my opinion hence why I want them independent.

To me, they ARE ego projectors. I like the way the car looks with them on during the day - and the night. It makes me feel better about the car - and my purchase. It's a shame you have a problem with this and I actually feel a tiny little bit bad that what I like appears to make you uncomfortable. I'm worried about my karma now...

+1.

Not uncomfortable at all about expressing my opinion. God bless North America. Hahaha, so I have fog lamp envy? No, both my Hyundais have fog lamps, as well as DRLs. I added on the LED DRLs to my Santa Fe. I use the fogs only to see the road, though, not to explore my psyche, or boost a sagging ego. I don't condemn those who just want to be seen, rather than to see, as long as they don't blind others. That's why I support the law (practice) that automatically shuts off the fogs when high beam is selected. Those who defeat that feature are no friends of mine.
