  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, about to close on a G80 deal in Toronto area. I keep hearing that outside of dealerships, the genesis cars are difficult to work on and independent mechanics are not great/available for these cars.

does this hold true for long term genesis owners?

Would love insights from anyone in the Ontario region

Fortunately, mine hasn't required any repairs, other than some minor stuff under warranty. I do my own maintenance, as I have with my other cars. I know of nothing about it that would make it difficult to work on. Electronic work will require good scan tools, as it true for all other brands.

I have not had any issues with getting my local mechanic to work on my 2019 G80 when it was in a fender bender, and had no issues with another mechanic working on my 2015 G80 that was in a side swipe. Though, it was mostly just body work, and I cannot speak much for electronics and drivetrain.

Nevertheless, it is all about finding a good mechanic. Granted, the brand is new, so some mechanics are likely still just catching up on everything, but at the end of the day, cars are not so different from each other that a good mechanic cannot work on it for you. Parts are a bit slow to get, though, but no where near as bad as "must ship from Germany" bad.
