  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have recently purchased painted Genesis White Satin Pearl side moldings on EBAY from "auto-spoilers-and trim" for $89. They are a very nice match to the car paint. I am trying to determine :confused:where to attach the moldings. My first thought is to determine what point on the doors projects the most from the car which would seem to be the most likely point to get a ding.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Your suggestion to put them where the doors may be dinged the most makes sense. You also may want to look at other Hyundai cars (Sonata and Azera if they have moldings) to see where they are located. Keep us posted.

Putting the molding at the point where the door stick out the most is a logical approach. However, it won't help dings coming from SUVs. SUVs sit much higher than the sedan and its rear doors are particular troublesome. That portion of the rear door arch over the rear wheel tend to hit just below the window sill of most cars:(

Did your side molding come with template? Last time when I bought the side molding for my MDX, it came with a set of template. The template has a cut out of the door handel. Once I put the tempate on the door, it became the guidelines for me to put the side molding.

I am very interested in putting side molding on my Genesis too. Do you mind post some pictures when yours is done?

Thankns!

No template included with moldings, but instructions included suggesting how to measure, etc. Will try to get pictures after installation.

moving to appearance modifications

Installed side moldings today. Bottom of new moldings 13 1/16" above top of bottom molding. Be sure to leave about 1/4" from edge where doors meet to assure rear door molding clears when opening. I know placement is somewhat objective, but I tried to place molding at the point the door side projects the most. (yes, car is dirty, but I cleaned area of application).

Tried to upload pictures but attachment management site would not allow because of size showing my pictures are 1.28 mb and 127.mb when I photographed at lowest resolution and "properties" show them at 928kb and 927kb respectively!!! Uploaded mat photos a couple of days ago from same camera and settings without a problem. Any ideas?
