  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Found another thing that I will need to do something about (besides the lack of an adjustable lumbar for the passenger). Drove 75 miles tonight------------the panel lights are way too bright even with the dimmer rotated to its darkest setting. The bright panel lights reduce night vision and would likely lead to a headache if the drive was longer.

Every other vehicle I have ever owned, you could dim the panel light to virtually off. On this car, they go from bright to ridiculously bright.

Anybody else note this?? I'm going to have figure out a way to add a resister to the panel light circuit, unless the dealer can help me.

Either Tint the dash display... or use vinyl repealable coating.

I guess you did not test drive a Genesis at night. Give it a few weeks/months. You'll get used to it.

If you still have a problem after that, go to a window tint store and beg some samples of their products. Obviously you don't want to go too dark with the tint. Cut to size to fit the screen. The tint film will cling to the screen without any adhesive necessary.

Btw: I'm from Rochester as well ;)...NY haha

Thanks for linking to my thread. OFG.

From what I have read about this cluster it is not easily modified if it is indeed the same as the cluster in the Gen Coupe. All the lights are SMD chips soldered to a PCB board. Not bulbs like older gauge clusters. I have not personally taken it out. Gauge Cluster Color Change Post 30 talks about them having SMD's.

If you do get the inline resistor method to work count me in. I definitely want to fix this as well.

This is still annoying after driving the car for two years. Never going to get used to it.

If you keep the car long enough you'll get to the point where, like me, you don't drive after dark (realistically though, it looks like that could be 40 years in your case. Odds are you'll have changed cars by then).

At Walmart you can pick up what is called "Black Magic Window Tinting" This stuff is easy on, easy off. It come in varying levels. I recommend trying to see if this could darken it enough to make it still good to see during the day as well as at night. Just a thought.

See my post from 2/8/13 above.

What I find annoying is the auto-dimmer of the instrument cluster. It's not adjustable, and when driving during dusk, it tends to flip back and forth between bright and dim as I drive under trees and bridges. It should have some sort of delay or logic to prevent that.

My former TL had an adjustment for when it would dim (5 settings if I remember correctly). And it *never* flipped back and forth between bright and dim in the 3 years I had it.

Quirks aside, I still like the Genesis better. :)
