That's the spot. On the V8 it's located on top of the throttle body.
Those valves look pretty trashed. Did you get them bead or walnut blasted?
Not sure I'll buy a GDI engine again. Or, just swallow the idea that it needs a "real" cleaning every 50k miles.
Man. Your not lying. I recently cleaned my valves as well and jesus christ that bolt behind the engine right next to the firewall was an absolute NIGHTMARE too get off. Took me like an hour of twisting my arms and wrists into different angles and trying different tools and lots of cuts on my hands. F&$k that bolt and f@&k the engineer who put it there. For anyone going the manual cleaning route on the v8, lemme just say holy shit. There are a few painfully ignorant locations for bolts in relation to the firewall and harness. I got extremely lucky and my intake has been off before so those bolts weren’t even installed! That’s the only time I’ll ever thank a dealership tech for not putting bolts back
This is about 90-95k miles with only chemical cleaning before. I bought the vehicle at 79k and only run Amsoil synthetic and top tier gas.
These were some of the better looking valves. A real pain in the ass to get the manifold out from under the harness and back in especially in single digit weather. The idle smoothed out quite a bit and I can’t even feel it now.For anyone going the manual cleaning route on the v8, lemme just say holy shit. It took me like forty five minutes to get the manifold out. I’m surprised I did get it but it only took loosening the harness in a few spots and a pry barb. Getting it back in was a different story and I ended up breaking off one tab on the manifold And one in the harness so it would slide back far enough I could catch one stud and it was came from there.Man. Also i bet you had real fun getting that harness out of the way when trying to pull the manifold off the bolts![]()
Cleaned them myself with crc valve cleaner and a couple steel wire brushes I picked up in a pack from oreillys. Those valves look pretty trashed. Did you get them bead or walnut blasted?
