Intermittent heated seat

This has only happened once so far at about 4000 miles. have a litle over 5K now. I started car put heat on level 3 on seats went back in the house got my wife and off to town we went, about 8 to 10 min I noticed the driver seat was off and would not do anything hot or cold. Worked just fine on return trip home.

I had the same problem, I brought my car in today for service and the service writer knew about the problem and they installed the springs to protect the air tubes from getting crushed. I tested it today and it seems fixed.
Thanks to Jenn at Advantage Hyundai...:)

The only problem I have with my heated seat is that when I turn it on the cars interior smells like urine.....strong! Either I pee'd myself and didn't even notice, or maybe there is a bunch of dust in the tubing for the blower. Similar to when you turn the furnace on for for the 1st time after the summer and fall and it stinks as the furnace burns all the dust off the heating eliments. I don't use the heated seat much since I store the car in the winter, but it stinks!

At 1st, I thought someone pee'd in my intake by the wipers, but I checked and car was dry.

I had this problem and my dealer fixed it right away with he tubing modification. The modification came from the regional services manager. Works like a charm.

:confused:Often times my drivers seat will stop heating up after about 4 minutes. The switch fails to work the heat or the cool functions. I have to restart engine and everything works again. Sometimes it solves the problem, sometimes it doesn't. Other days it works fine, heating to the point I need to adjust it down a notch or two. It sometimes goes a week or two without a malfunction. As we are all finding out in this forum, Hyundai doesn't want the dealers to use 'trial & error' method of repair if the problem can't be repeated in the shop. Has anybody experienced this 'intermittent' heating issue. I'd love to pass on any tip to the repair guy if he can't duplicate the problem.
I have a 2010 3.8 Genesis sedan, had same problem with heating/cooling function of drivers seat since car was new (now 2 years on road). In first year dealer tried installing coils to relieve pressure on hoses". This fix did not work. The heated/cooled seat is not on a timer and will turn off only when the driver turns it off or the car is turned off.
Manufacturers prefer to wait to see if problems occur over multiple vehicles before committing to specific fixes. After time had passed, Hyundai saw pattern of heated/cooled seat problems and this month (Feb. 2012) agreed to install new seat bottom, all under warranty. All works fine now. Car has been excellent overall, would not hesitate to buy again.

I've had a similar problem with the driver's side heated seat. In my case, when the switch was activated, the lights would glow for about five seconds and then shut off. This occurred for both the heating and cooling function. I took it to my dealer, Williamsburg Hyundai, and they found the seat cushion portion of the electrical assembly to be defective. They replaced the necessary part and the function now works perfectly. The part number used in this case was 88139-3M010. When I described the problem initially to the technician, I had with me printouts from this forum and the electrical schematic from the Hyundai service website. He appreciated that I was able to accurately describe the the problem based on the forum information. FYI, Williamsburg Hyundai has been great to work with since I purchased the car in January 2010. They really make an effort to keep me happy and on the road!

My heated seat problem is resolved!!! The dealer installed 3 coil springs around the breather tubes. Apparently the breather tubes were getting crushed when sitting in the seat. The seats work great now. It gets as hot as you would ever want it to get. Great work by Arrow Hyundai in Milwaukee tracking down the issue!!

Hi garddog:
I'm having the same problem, which noone here seems to know what to do to fix it. Can you give me the name and or phone number for your dealer in
Milwaukee ??? Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 2010 Genesis sedan since it was new (the only problem with this great car), as you can see from my past postings. After replacing the seat tubes, springsm etc the dealer and myself appealed to Hyundai that 2 years trying to fix this problem was not reasonable. Hyundai agreed and covered 100% of replacing and installing a new drivers seat bottom section. The heat and cool seat functions have since worked perfectly. There seems to be a lot of people who post there thoughts re the seat problem and how it may be a timer issue. There is no such timer on these seats and turn off only when the driver manually presses the seat heat button. My Genesis was purchased from White Plains Hyundai at 70 Westchester Ave. in White Plains, NY, and their service is and always has been excellent. Henry is their service manager and he really goes the extra mile for his customers.

Thanks to your dealer, Arrow Hyundai, in Milwaukee, I'm now driving a Genesis that the heated drivers seat finally works. My dealer fixed it by installing the fix kit that Hyundai now tells dealers about.
They installed 3 3/4" by 3" springs inside the bottom seat cushion as they claim the cushion collapses from weight and keeps it from functioning properly. Must be true as mine finally works.

My heated driver seat stopped working (and cooled function). The last year when using the heated seat, I'd get a strong ammonia smell (just like pee, seriously). Tech said that smell was probably the electronics for the seat failing. My heat would turn on for 3 seconds and shut off and not turn back on. My car was at the dealer for almost a week (mostly waiting on parts) and the seat works like a charm again.

2nd issue, was the rear HVAC for the rear seat would not blow hot air at all even when set on hot/red. Some sort of bad module or accuator, and whole dash had to be removed to get to it and replace it. Throws heat again:) About a 4 hour replacement!

Also took in for engine tick, but it did not tick while at dealer. Was ticking when I got home from the dealer and pulled into my garage though:rolleyes:

Last issue was 1 on my keys stopped working about a year ago. It was the battery they replaced and worked great.

Came out of the dealer spending $8.50 for the new key battery. Everything else was under warranty. Would hate to see this bill if I wasn't under warranty anymore.

Re: Intermittent heated seat fix

The coils placed around the air tubes works! This is the fix we've all been looking for. After 3 visits to my dealer, I asked him to try this, and BINGO! My seat heater now works perfectly. Call Superior Hyundai South in Cincinnati at
513-878-1983. Have your service mngr talk to their service mngr for details. Refer to the fix they did for me, Jeff Greenwald, on my 2010 Genesis earlier this month.

Hi:

Hyundai had known about this problem for 3 years and my dealer knew nothing about it until I emailed them the Hyundai service bulletin ehaih I got thru this site over a year ago and to this day you in most cases sill have to find this yourself.
The bulletin says to place 3 springs inside the heating channel in the front
it works perfectly.

Thanks for your post as many people are having this problem.
Hyundai finally told me it was body weight that caused it.

Its been a while since this thread has been updated so let me be the one...

I bought my Genny a month ago and noticed the heated seats shut off after a few minutes. With the help of this thread I was able to convince my local dealer that I was not crazy.

First the dealer called me back saying the seats work fine. Then I ask "how big is the tech" they replied he was about 140lbs when I am 260lbs. Once they put a larger guy in the problem started to occur.

They had to contact there Field Engineer who told them not to touch the car until he reviewed it. 2 days later he gave the go ahead. They installed a new lower cushion and 6 springs to keep the air channels open.

The service manager said it was the most complex seat cushion he ever seen. There are no actual "air tubes" instead they are channels molded into the seat.

It has been a week and my rear has never been warmer!

A big thanks to Bill at Ron Marhofer Hyundai in Akron. They fixed it less than a week!

If your dealer is giving you lip about this issue do what I did...print this thread out and tell them to contact their FE.

Just read through the posts about heated seat issues. I got into my car this morning and turned on the heated seats to the middle bar. 2 minutes later, the heated seat display started to blink and the seats never warmed. I was not in a position to stop the car and restart. Lets see what happens when I leave work. If it continues, I cannot wait to see what the dealer finds out.

Hello, new to the site.
I bought a 2010 Genesis brand new for my wife.
She loves the car.
95,000 miles and it runs awesome.

Just started having the intermittent seat issue with the drivers seat.

Some of you have posted in this thread a TSB or a "kit" that was used to fix the issue.
Can someone post up a TSB number or a "kit" part number I can refer to?

Thanks!!!!

Were you able to get this kit? or problem fixed?

My car started having this problem today, only on the drivers side, will only stay on for about 1 min no matter what setting even the cooling then it turns off and will not activate unless i power down the car and restart it, then the same problem occurs. I just purchased this car 1 month ago and I don't have any warranty I'd like to attempt to fix this myself.

I have a 2010 Sedan 4.6

I'm having the same issue. My highest and medium level always turn off after 2 - 5 minutes. I cannot turn them back on unless I turn the car off and back on. The lowest level never kicks off. I'm planning on having it looked at when I bring my car in for my next oil change in about 2 week. I'll let you know what they say.

I am having the same issue! What was the fix??

My dealer said they had to replace the entire heating system in the seat. That being said, it was their policy to replace the leather seat cover as well. That is where my problems began. Let me know how it goes and good luck.
