  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, I have a 2012 Genesis sedan 3.8 Premium with only 70,000km or less than 44,000 miles on it.
Has anyone experienced any issues of electric or electronic malfunctioning intermittently?
For example, my aircon blows out hot air on start up some times for 10-15 minutes while on Auto, and most other times it works fine. And it always works fine when I take it to the dealer to get checked.
Occasionally my back up camera display is all screwed up but most times it is fine.
Some times my rear window sunshade does not come back up after shifting out of reverse.
And finally, my outside mirrors occasionally do not return to normal after shifting out of reverse. Sometimes it is the left mirror, sometimes it is the right. My dealer has checked it out numerous times and have replaced, the left mirror, the right mirror, the entire switch control. Although they have replicated the issue in the parking lot, the technician has not been able to replicate it while testing.
I am not sure if any of these problems are related to one another or if they are all separate systems.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like something electrically is causing it. I would a load test done on your battery. If it passed then have the output on your alternator checked.

The dealership has done numerous tests and even gone so far as to undo, clean and reattach all grounds for the body and engine including the main ground.

my AC works intermittently - surprisingly only when my turn signals work

2013 3.8

might want to check the electricals behind the AC control panel, as it has wires to both the AC and turn signals (via hazards).

thanks. i'll look into this..

i replaced the turn signal/wiper switch today and all of the electrical issues were solved for a few minutes. then i lost blinkers, wipers,AC,door locks again. unplugged and replugged in the new switch and it's solved it. each time i lose all of those, i unplug and replug the blinker/wiper switch and it's good

switched back to the old blinker/wiper switch and have been doing my little trick of unplugging/plugging in whenever it quits working. what's interesting is with my old switch my fobs work, and with the brand new switch from rock auto, everything but the fob works

Just a hunch, but all that suggests a bad BCM.

Did you ever get your problem solved? I’m having intermittent issues with hazards, horn, drivers seat movement and drivers door lock failing intermittently.

The BCM is the same as FAM?

Nope, they are different modules.
Hello Gunkk: I just picked up my 12 Genesis Sedan 3.8 from dealer. They said "it might be your FAM", nice try, I told you that. Anyway, now my ABS and ESC are on as I left the dealer. Before I order a FAM from EBAY, does that sound like its associated with the FAM? Or smoothing else? Also, the FAM and BCM are not the same, but when I search for the part using FAM, it sometimes comes up called BCM. You stated it wasn't the same part. Where is the BCM located on my car? Ideas? I appreciate you.

The BCM (aka IPM) is located inside the passenger compartment under the dash. The FAM is a tall skinny multi-relay monolith inside the pass side engine compartment fuse box and controls exterior running lights, fog lights and turn signals.

Note: the manual uses both BCM and IPM to refer to the same module under the driver's side lower dash pad.
